So, if you could commission the 2013 season...

Post by tony ingram on Sun Mar 28, 2010 3:48 pm

What would you do to celebrate the show's fiftieth anniversary? I'd have a different past Doctor guest starring with the current one in the first seven stories (Tom Baker, Paul McGann and, I guess, David tennant would get two episodes apiece, the others a single part story) building up to a three part finale in which all of them would have a cameo, along with brief inserts of old footage of the three Doctors no longer with us. Each of the surviving Doctors would be accompanied by a companion from their era (for McGann I'd have Matt Di Angelo as books companion Fitz and Sheridan Smith as audio companion Lucie) and in the finale I'd have guest appearances by Carole Ann Ford (Susan), Frazer Hines (Jamie), Debbie Watling (Victoria) and Nicholas Courtney (the Brigadier) playing their current day selves, as well as Elisabeth Sladen (Sarah Jane). What would everyone else do?

Well that depends. I dont view The comedy spin off Show Dr WTF! as canon, so Eccelston, Tennant and Smith will not be a part of my season.

I'd probably do something along the lines of the four Doctors that BF are planning.

I think Tom is to old mate. He could do a Hartnell 3 doctors style apperance. I'd also have Richard E Grant in it

So...you'd omit the new series actors but use the original ninth Doctor?

Ok let me explain my canical system

The books, TV show 1963- 1996 and scream of the Shalka and finally Big Finish all make up Canon.

Anything by RTD and the new who gang is NOT canon, and shouldnt even be viewed as doctor who, but as really bad fan fic tripe to the same extent one would view Jon Blumms Time rift video.

So no, no RTD doctors at all, ever. A celebration should focus on the genius and originality of the classic show, not the generic wannabe Buffy/tellitubbies spoof version.

Can't agree with that, Cody. To me, the nineties, with the launch of the books, and then the Big Finish range, was a golden era for Who!

Reports of DW's death have been greatly exaggerated.

Seems like DW fans have been predicting 'The Death of Doctor Who' ever since the episode of the same name aired in the sixties. But the show is alive and kicking, and Matt Smith is gonna be ace.

So there Razz

(Look, I miss Hartnell too, but we're just going to have to live with it.)

They need to get Tom Baker and Paul McGann in for a story, teaming up to find out who this guy was who's been impersonating the Doctor for the last few years. Why oh why is this not happening-EGO'S!!!?

*ahem* sorry, started channeling Ian Levine there for a minute...

I think I agree with you on this. The last 5 years have been the RTD show featuring the Doctor. The whole DWC really feels smug, as if they are going "look how great we all are".

I'd have a complete series about the Daleks. They'd find out that all the Time Lords were dead, the universe in chaos and something SERIOUS heading their way. At the end they would realise what that was...and it would be death.

I own Abducted By The Daleks too, but it really is awful and isn't even properly porn anyway. The Sun's cartoon about it (with big-breasted women hiding behind the sofa) was sexier. The only good bit is when they beam up a serial killer and exterminate him (the people who made it also made a bunch of sadomasochistic exploitation films with serial killers who tie up and whip women... man i researched this too heavily!)

ANYWAY i'd like to see "Rise of the Daleks", where they escape from thier imprisonment on Skaro after Genesis and go to war with the Thals, who have forgotten them... thus correcting (a bit) the discontinuity between Genesis and the original Dalek storyline.

Also i'd have a randomly-inserted episode with lookalike actors, in black and white and with crackly sound which would look just like an episode of the very original series! The "Next episode" on the preceding one would show the one after it, making it a complete surprise.

The return of previous doctors together with the current one would be a must too. Actually sod it, they should just film that fanfic comic "The Ten Doctors"!

Basically how Moffat doesnt get plot logic or know how to have a fantasy set in a reasonble reality. He also he hates things which are CGI as they look fake and that if you can't do something well don't do it. He prefers to leave things to the imagination. He says New Who is made purely fro the "superhero flick" fans which explains the almost paper thin plot and over dependency on CGI to make it work.

Yes, because Rupert Murdoch is just the person we need in charge of DW.

Personally, I won't want to watch the show until it is interrupted by at least three ad breaks advertising tampons, car insurance and loo paper. It adds to the magic.

Oh, and Billie Piper is hot.

And Catherine Tate does not look like a horse.

I didn't mean it seriously Lucy. My point was the BBC and certain members of it's staff have recently got a too big a ego to realise their work is really quite poor, and refuse, for personal reasons, to let people with real talent to have a go.

The BIG question is, when is Adam Rickett going to play Ben Chatham and who do we need to hump to get a Sparacus script commissioned.

Episode three: Contemporary earth.
With his Tardis repaired the Doctor takes a trip to Kyoto, Japan to take part in the moonlight festival. However, a sinister force lies in the Makashi (an alter used to transport a Kami) which threatens to bring the festivities to a bloody end.
