BBC News reports that the great Philip Madoc, who among his many screen roles counted appearances in The Krotons, The War Games, The Brain of Morbius, The Power of Kroll and the movie Daleks: Invasion Earth 2150AD, as well as the Big Finish audio story 'Master', died this morning aged 77. Another wonderful actor gone...

Great loss indeed! I know many rate his best Dr Who performance as Mehendri Solon in "Brain of Morbius" And I certainly agree that he's great there. But, for me, Phillips deliberatly `understated` `War Lord` in "The War Games" is his best in that sphere!

To play it the way he did while both James Bree (Security Chief) and Edward Brayshaw (War Chief) went at it `Hammer & Tongs` was a masterclass in understaed cold villiant of the highest class.

A great loss to the acting profession indeed.

He was fantastic in that, I agree. The contrast between him and his bickering subordinates is, as you say, a joy to watch. Sadly, his last televised Who appearance as Fenner in The Power of Kroll was a total waste of his talents.

Yeah, he was definitely at his best as the War Lord.

Though I may be biased, since I can't stand Morbius...
