Clint
A new British comic / magazine out today.
Had a quick flick through it in the shop (before putting it back ! )
A strange mix. The editorial says that it is aimed at boys and is an Eagle or 2000ad for today's kids.
However the comic is full off effing and blinding and has a (tiny)"adult content" warning on the front. I think this is called having your cake and eating it too !
Maybe they actually want a tabloid "scandal" for the free publicity ? After all nothing is likely to make kids want it more than a "ban this sick filth" moral outrage.
The Frankie Boyle cover seems bizzare to me. Surely a fit young bird is what's needed on the cover if they are hoping to target young lads ? A middle age beardy bloke is likely to be something of a turn off...
I know we should applaud any effort to do something new in the British comics market but this doesn't really look like my cup of tea. (And to be fair, based on the editorial it's not meant to be.)

Re: Clint
My feelings are pretty much the same. It seems more in the vein of Crisis or Revolver than 2000AD really, more aimed at the student market, but without the integrity and (admittedly often irritating) social conscience of Crisis or the imagination of Revolver. A bit of a misfire, and yeah, the cover is just odd.

Bought it, haven't read it. As an anthology title it can always improve... unless the stories have too many episodes and it dies before there can be a refresh.

Re: Clint
I think Kick Ass 2 was an especially bad descision (and they put it on the cover!), starting with the sequel and just assuming people have read the original, and also the story reads like it's not supposed to be broken into episodes, where's the cliff hanger? "It might destroy your mom"? What might? What's wrong with her mum? why should we care?

A real disppointment for me as well. Not sure who its aimed at but its definatly not a kids comic I suppose its aimed at teens+ with all the trendy swearing and violence. These sort of comics often lack any sense of humor as well. The Johnathan Ross tale was too long and I lost interest.
Havent bought an issue since No.1 and threw that on the recycle pile.

It does read like a student rag. It's totally humourless and very earnest.

Re: Clint
Pretty much. One suspects the writers are the kind of people who raved about alternative comedy in the eighties and wrote long, excitable dissertations on how revolutionary andd groundbreaking Viz was...the Caretaker wrote:Yeah and I suppose the titles supposed to look like the c word for extra controversy?

Re: Clint
Thoughts after issue 1, Whilst I applaud the idea, I'm completely unmoved by the execution...not for me.
And whoever came up with the idea for the cover needs to find another job.

I suspect that if you give it six months, they'll be looking for one.

Believe it or not, I'm glad someone's buying it-it's good news for the industry if any British comic sells.
I'm just equally glad it's not me buying it...

I echo these sentements, and want nothing more than to see a magazine like this to suceed, if only to open up the way for similar publications in this country.
I do question the editorial decision and mindset that lists the likes of Millar and Romita Jnr alongside Jonathan bleedin' Ross and Whatsisname bleedin Boyle, however. I'm sure there is plenty of talent here in the UK that are perhaps more deserving of a 'go' at their own strips that these two, ahem, highly regarded celebs.
Ahh, well, if it's a publicity thing to get it all off the ground, maybe all is well and good.

Jonathan Woss is of couwse one of Bwitain's most celebwated comics fans, so I suppose his contwibution was necessawy to give it an air of legitimacy to the non comics weading masses. Either that, or he's just massaging his alweady huge ego by finally seeing something he's witten in a 'pwoper' comic...

Re: Clint
According to Lew Stringer's blog issue 5 is apparently delayed. Though that might just be because of lorry drivers on their holidays rather than it going down the pan and being cancelled. Unfortunatley.
Will this be the issue where they finally cover up the logo? I'm going to do a "Clintwatch" entry on my blog when it happens, complete with extremely grainy photograph (ably provided by my mobile's camera). In fact if they could hold off for a few months until Springwatch comes on that'd be great.

I am rather surprised they've reached issue #5, in fact. Maybe I'm just getting old and out of touch...

Re: Clint
The Daily Hate Mail belatedly tries to kick up a stink about Clint :
http://lewstringer.blogspot.com/2011/07/daily-mails-attack-on-clint-provokes.html
More interesting is that the frequency of the comic is being cut to nine times a year, suggesting perhaps that sales are not holding up ?

Ah, the good old reliable Mail! Cue CLiNT's sales skyrocketing as outraged of Tunbridge Wells and his chums all buy it to see what they're getting so outraged about...
