Let's Kill Hitler
That... wasn't as bad as I was expecting. It's a grudging thumbs up from me.
The Silence's brainwashing techniques are pretty crap, aren't they? (Or perhaps Mr Moffat was making a Deep Philosophical Point about free will.)

Re: Let's Kill Hitler
Poll now added, thanks Lucy for starting the thread!
Anyway, from me-'Very good'. A total shift in tone from the last episode, but they seem to delight in confounding viewers' expectations. I do like the way Rory has developed as a character, the scene where he decks the Nazi was brilliant...

Re: Let's Kill Hitler
I'm not voting till I've seen it again or I'll only make an ass of myself again.
As of now... middling. A lot to like, but plenty to dislike too, namely how rushed a lot of it seemed. My favourite bits were the flashbacks actually - always great to see little Amelia, and the Amy-realises-Rory-likes-her scene was frickin' hilarious.
Had me struggling to keep up at times, though, so another viewing is definitely in order to figure out what I actually think of it.

Re: Let's Kill Hitler
The Amy/Rory realization was hilarious, I agree. "How long have we known each other? Twelve years? I've seen you nearly every day. And in all that time, name one girl you've ever paid any attention to!"
Rory exits, embarrassed.
Cue stunned look.

Little Amelia was very good. I didn't like how rushed parts of the episode seemed - all that silly business switching guns around - and how River was obsessed with her clothes, weight and sex appeal. I'd be ashamed if my daughter was that shallow.

Ah, but your daughter wouldn't be that shallow...
So, you were annoyed at her shallowness but not alarmed by her apparent psychosis?

Re: Let's Kill Hitler
She was raised by a cult, so the psychosis was a very realistic part of her character. In fact, I was kind of confused that she switched from homicide mode to altruism mode so quickly - which is why I said that the Silence's brainwashing is crap. I don't think they meant for her to sacrifice all her regenerations to bring him back from the dead...

Maybe their programming effectively ended when she'd 'killed' him?

What was it that the Doctor whispered to River as he was dying?

No, I'm fairly certain that wasn't what he was whispering...Lucy McGough wrote:What was it that the Doctor whispered to River as he was dying?

I'm guessing it was "Get me out of this, you bitch-and don't let your mum and dad know I said that! In case you hadn't noticed, this show's called 'Doctor Who', so if I snuff it your fifteen minutes of fame are up!"

A simple 'I don't know' would have sufficed
If River is the child of the Tardis, does that mean she has a father and two mothers?

It would only be polygamy if Rory and the Tardis were married. Which they aren't.

Hey, they may have gotten hitched while the series was off-air! Anything's possible in Who, these days!Lucy McGough wrote:It would only be polygamy if Rory and the Tardis were married. Which they aren't.

They must've done it when they were in Utah. I think polygamy's legal there.

Re: Let's Kill Hitler
That was excellent; I really enjoyed it. Just to upset Lucy (which is easy!) I think Alex Kingston is gorgeous - a little on the large side for my taste, but she has a lovely face and hair.
Down side ('cos there has to be one):
1) Why did Hitler speak English?
2) Why did Hitler have the wrong pistol? He should have had the Luger the guard had in the courtyard!
3) The Numskulls have been updated after 50 years - at last!
4) 'A single Question to define the meaning of the Universe'...hmm - read that one somewhere else.
5 For all you less than eagle eyed out there - the actor who played the German officer the machine took over at the start played a German Officer in Band of Brothers...
Otherwise - EXCELLENT!

She is not "on the large side", but she does have a lovely face and hair. It's River Song in this particular episode I have a problem with, not Alex Kingston - and not even River Song in other episodes.

Re: Let's Kill Hitler
For the same reason that everyone else the Doctor and his friends meet speaks English even on other planets; the TARDIS translates the local language telepathically for them. This was first established way back in 1976!GBF wrote:That was excellent; I really enjoyed it. Just to upset Lucy (which is easy!) I noticed that. Hitler had a Webley, didn't he? Seemed a bit unlikely...
2) Why did Hitler have the wrong pistol? He should have had the Luger the guard had in the courtyard!
Actually, since the aliens seemed to be piloting the whole body and not just the head, I think it was more like Ken Reid's 'The Nervs'.
3) The Numskulls have been updated after 50 years - at last!
Forty Two!
4) 'A single Question to define the meaning of the Universe'...hmm - read that one somewhere else.

On second viewing, I thought it was pretty poor actually. One of those "If we run around shouting VERY loudly it'll be HILARIOUS!" episodes.
Which never are.

I'd prefer it if I could watch it with a fan, like you. I watched it with my Dad and he didn't have a clue what was going on because of Moffat's intricate plotting.tony ingram wrote:I thought it was funny.
I can't think of any bits that made me laugh out loud, but it was a fairly enjoyable romp.

Sorry I can't comment on it-but i'll be here for comments/views on the next episode!
I never got time to answer Tony's query about Addy & Hermy etc! All for `em! and `I.T.M.A` etc! This country needed these to help keep spirits up in a very dark time!

Yes, strips lampooning evil, corrupt dictators at a time when the country was living in terror of what they'd do next!
