Night Terrors Empty Night Terrors

So, what did everyone think? This was actually the first Mark Gatiss script I've actually liked. It was really creepy in places and funny in others. Not the best of the series so far, but not bad at all.

That was very enjoyable, one of the best of the season. MUCH better than last weeks.

I thought you'd like it, Cody. Very much true to the established model of go in, have adventure, leave again. And not an Alex Kingston in sight!

Bit of a let down for me-probably had my expectations a bit high!

I thought it was a bit too similar to "Fear Her" and I guessed the youngster was an `alien` almost right away-and i'm not very sharp in that way really!

Too many odd happenings with no real explanation (That I could discern)

The `Doll House` scenes were nice and spooky which was a plus!

I'm afraid the fellow who played the yougsters Dad (Alex?) gave-in my view just about the worst performance in a Dr Who story since Joseph Furst back in 1967! Execrable to put it mildly! Am I the only one to find this character- just awfully portrayed?

I watched the Sunday repeat and could not find it any better; I dare say I expected too much!

I am shocked, Alan.
Not that you weren't impressed by Daniel Mays as Alex (I thought he was OK, but nowhere near as good as he was in Ashes to Ashes), but that you apparently dislike Joseph Furst!! Shocked

I loved Joseph Furst.

Joseph Furst was a far better actor than that performance! He was superb in a Callan episode!

The Alex character-sorry! to me, its an awful performance! But if everyone else rates it-no problems!

Joseph Furst is one of the best guest performances in the whole series!

The `Underwater Menace` was rather `camp` in style, so Joseph Furst was just right for that style of story. I should have liked to see him in a different style of Dr Who as I know he can do `serious` very well!

Take Ronald Allen for example! In the `Dominators` his slightly OTT character perfectly suited that story. However, in the far more seriously slanted `Ambassadors of Death` his performance as Ralph Cornish was perfectly tailored for that story!

Another actor who seemed to be always able to adjust his performance to suit the tone of the story was the aforementioned Philip Madoc, of course His wonderfully mad Mehendri Solon is a world away from the War Lord, Eelek or Fenner.

A great performance! I havn't seen that one in years, but I can recall two superb bits of dialogue from him! First, when he meets The Doctor- "What A Wonderful Head!" And later when his servant is pestering him to sew back a humanoid arm "Any third rate Hack can sow on an arm, it takes real skill to put in a brain!" (Sic)

He also comes out with what I think is the single greatest insult I've ever heard (to Condo, of course):

"You chicken brained biological disaster!" Razz

Phillip mentioned on the `War Games` commentary that he gets the most signed photo requests for both Solon and the War Lord

I've never had Philip Madoc's autograph, but I am the proud owner of a Jacqueline Pearce.

The autograph only, sadly. Not Jacquie herself.
