Mary Tamm has died of cancer aged just 62.

If you'll pardon my French, f**k. Sad

Just learned this myself. A sad day-and at 62, Mary was far too young to be taken from us. This really is turning out to be another lousy year for the Doctor Who 'family'.

A sad loss. Sixty-two is indeed too young. She will be missed.

I didn't catch much of the season that Mary was in (Season 16-`Key to Time`) but I can recall Mary's time enough to say I thought she did her work well and was a good enough `companion` for me!

Both Mary and Caroline John were in `Dr Who` for just one full season , but thankfully their work in Dr Who can be enjoyed for generations of fans.

Hopefully, the Dr Who Magazine will give Mary as good a `career review` as the superb one they have afforded to Caroline in this months magazine! I think It does Caroline proud.

Still a shame she wasn't around to see it. Caroline, like Mary Tamm, rarely seemed to engage with Who fandom in the way that some others did, and as a result I think they tended to be less well known, which is a real pity.

Reading the tribute in the Dr Who Magazine, the way Caroline left the series certainly knocked her confidence! It is amazing that Terrance Dicks still holds such outdated views about female companions even to this day!

Caroline was persuaded to go to conventions in the 90s and realised that fans certainly appreciated what she brought to the show.

Caroline has contributed to Dr Who recently via big finish audios and other projects such as the Liz Sladen bio reading.

I can't recall if Mary Tamm had reprised Romana 1 on big finish or other medium for Dr Who- but she too will be remembered fondly by fans of the show i'm sure!

Mary Tamm stars as Romana in the most recently recorded series of Big Finish audios featuring Tom Baker's Doctor, recorded shortly before her death. They're due out over the next few months.

Thanks Tony! It's good to know she contributed to those.

Mary Tamm's husband has apparently died of a heart attack just hours after her funeral.

Is it possible to literally die of a broken heart? I can't help feeling this was the case, here...

I imagine the stress of losing someone you love could certainly result in a heart attack. Quite horrible, especially for the rest of the family.

Yes! Awful news! It can happen though. On my Dad's side, when my Nan died in early 1975 my Grandad only lived about two weeks more! Losing the will to live, is sadly, quite real.
