Roger Lloyd Pack RIP
BBC News has just announced the death of actor Roger Lloyd Pack (who amongst other roles played Trigger in only Fools & Horses, Owen Newitt in The Vicar of Dibley and John Lumic in the Doctor Who story Rise of the Cybermen/The Age of Steel) on Wednesday night. He died of pancreatic cancer, aged just 69. A great shame.

Oh no, I liked him! Didn't know his name, though, I have to admit. Mark of a good character actor, maybe?

I suspect that a distressing number of people in the UK tended to think his name was 'Trigger', judging by some of the obituaries I've seen since yesterday.Sam_Vimes wrote:Oh no, I liked him! Didn't know his name, though, I have to admit. Mark of a good character actor, maybe?

Lumic was Trigger?!
Um, sorry he's dead. 69 is no age. Good to see he's so warmly remembered.

He was a very versatile actor, for all that he's now inextricably linked in people's minds with one part.Lucy McGough wrote:Lumic was Trigger?!

I think Patrick Stewart is now linked with two parts, to most people, isn't he? Jean Lucy and Professor X.Lucy McGough wrote:Like Sir Patrick Stewart.

I bet there's at least one person out there who thinks he's the wheelchair-using telepathic captain of a starship full of mutants.
Apparently Roger Lloyd Pack was also Mr Crouch in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

He was indeed, and did a pretty good job of it. He was also in an old episode of The Avengers I watched last week.

David Tennant was in the same film playing Barty Crouch junior.

At first I didn't recognize the name, but this stinks. I love that show, and he is so fun in it. Plus, as Crouch and Lumic.

I swear there are times when I think there are only 10 or 20 actors in Britain. I see the same ones in SO many things.
Must mean they're good.

A lot of good British TV drama and comedy unfortunately never travels beyond our shores. It amazed me to learn that Only Fools & Horses was unknown in America after being Britain's most successful sit-com for over twenty years!Mbast1 wrote:Lucy McGough wrote:David Tennant was in the same film playing Barty Crouch junior.

I have never even heard of it, and I love British TV. Well, a lot of it anyway. Weird. Especially now that the internet has made it possible to share so much.
I'll have to see if I can find it somewhere.

In the UK, it's pretty much impossible to get away from it. It's repeated more or less constantly. Lines from the show have become absorbed into the language.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:A lot of good British TV drama and comedy unfortunately never travels beyond our shores.
