Doctor Who Cleans Up at the National Television Awards
The winners of the National Television Awards for last year are in, and it seems 2013 really was a great year for Doctor Who. The show won the best drama category, while Matt Smith won best drama performance. Steven Moffat, speaking on behalf of Smith (who is currently starring in American Psycho), said: "Sadly, Matt cannot be with us tonight because he's slaughtering people on stage in the West End. It's not in the script; he's just cross".

Has the show ever won this award before? Or is this a senses-shattering first?

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan won the outstanding performance awards in 2012. Doctor Who won 'most popular drama' in 2010. The NTAs are the only awards voted for by the public, so if a show is popular and hitting the right buttons it'll probably win.

Matt is also the only Doctor ever to have been nominated for a BAFTA for best actor.

Maybe Peter Capaldi will be the first Doctor to win it.
