Into the Dalek
Discuss the second episode of the 2014 series here (after it's been on, obviously: until then, there's not much to say).

I'm going to be boringly predictable and say that was the best Dalek story I've seen in ages, and i love Capaldi's Doctor (totally unpredictable and with a real edge to him). I do hope we're not going down the soap opera route again with the companion, though.

You mean she might end up with a boyfriend?

I don't know, I thought it was mediocre, really. There just wasn't too much of anything to it.
Then again, I genuinely don't like the Daleks. I think they're way overused, especially given how many times we've been told they're gone for good.

Unfortunately, I think the BBC are contractually bound to use them every year.

I've heard that, and it makes sense. I just wish we'd stop being told they're gone for good. Obviously not.

Well, to be fair, that started in their very first appearance.
"stop..our power...from wasting...away...or it will be...end of...the Daleks...gluurgh"

A very good episode. Unfortunately BBC America will sometimes go to commercial break right in the middle of a scene.
Just one example is when Gretchen appears in "Heaven." The scene goes to commercial right as Missy is speaking and reaching for the teapot. I won't know just what I missed until I get the series eight DVD boxed set.

The words "BBC" and "commercial" still don't sit right together...

Yeah, we have public television and radio here, and they've been airing commercials for a while and it just seems wrong to me. The public pays for them why should there be ads?
I KNOW why, the budgets have been cut by politicians who don't believe in public tv, but still, it seems wrong.

Thankfully, we aren't ever likely to be in that situation over here, unless the government finally decides to scrap the TV licence fee (which I can't see happening).Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:The words "BBC" and "commercial" still don't sit right together...

I hope that ex-soldier guy replaces Clara instead of dating her. Of course, The Doctor apparently doesn't like soldiers now, what with how he turned that one girl down because she was one, so maybe that's a false hope. I don't know. When did he stop liking soldiers, anyway? Is it because they remind him of the Brigadier?

He always had issues with the military mindset. I think those issues have become more noticeable over time.Sam_Vimes wrote:I hope that ex-soldier guy replaces Clara instead of dating her. I was never sure about that! I know he actually said he didn't want to be paid when they hired him, but he always seemed to be fairly well off, or at least never had any problems getting fancy clothes and expensive toys like the Whomobile...Lucy McGough wrote:I reckon it's because UNIT never paid him.tony ingram wrote:He always had issues with the military mindset.
