The Last War in Albion
Someone's doing a blog about the rivalry between Grant Morrison and Alan Moore:

Interesting. Though I think Morrison is the only one who's treating it as a war: Moore seems largely indifferent to him.Lucy McGough wrote:Someone's doing a blog about the rivalry between Grant Morrison and Alan Moore:

Apparently Moore has asked that people who buy Morrison's work not buy his work.

You know, this all seems to be part of the cult of celebrity/brand thing people seem to obsessed with. I love Moore's work, but I also love Morrison's. I have, to my own shame, read some of this bickering and Morrison comes out of it looking really bad. But, I don't much care, I care about their work. I think Moore is an interesting person from his interviews, but why should that matter in regards to his work?
I don't know, it all seems so High-school, to me. I don't see any reason I should pick sides.

If forced, I would be on Moore's side as he's a better writer, a more interesting person, and not an egomaniac.

As would I, to be honest, but I won't accept that I should be forced. I have two local comics shops, and because of how they started (one was formerly owned by a chain, and run by a manager I like, but was bought out by another employee who is ALSO someone I like and the former manager had to start his own store) they do NOT get along. And I've heard that some customers have been told (rumors all) that if they shop at that "other store" they can't shop at "this one", by BOTH owners. Now, I don't talk about it to them, but I shop at both, because I have loyalty to both for different reasons. But, if one of them forced me to choose, I would be done with that shop without a thought. And, while I respect Mr. Moore's choice to say his fans shouldn't read Morrison (if he did) I don't see any reason I should follow it. I make my own choices.

I also have a beard and long hair. But, not as good as his!

I'm not actually sure Moore ever made that statement, anyway-or if he did, that he meant it quite that way. It doesn't sound like the kind of attitude I'd expect from him.

Well, the beard, anyway. And I do need a haircut.

It's just something Philip Sandifer said. Dunno if it's true or not. Could be, though. Moore's imperfect, same as the rest of us.

I suppose. It just sounds like the kind of comment that could have been miquoted or taken out of context, which is something that seems to happen quite often with Moore, mostly because journalists like to make him sound insane.Lucy McGough wrote:It's just something Philip Sandifer said. Yeah, could just be Dr Sandifer's dodgy memory.

That and the contingent of fans who hate him, and will misquote him on purpose.

Yes. Seemingly mostly because he refuses to write mediocre superhero stories for Marvel or DC.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:which is something that seems to happen quite often with Moore, mostly because journalists like to make him sound insane.

True. What's really odd about it is they'll deny that vehemently if you directly question it, but if you listen to (read, really) what they say at other times, that is ALWAYS their issue with him. The rest of it seems to be rationalizing their hatred.

Re: The Last War in Albion
I think some of these people basically just can't cope with Moore's writing, or with anything more challenging than the latest issue of Final Crisis of the Secret Civil War of Armageddon 2001, or whatever, and just want to stamp out comics that are hard for them to understand because they require actual thought. Or am I being elitist?

This is exactly how I feel about it. Moore's obviously better, but I don't care who he likes/doesn't like. It's not like we're best friends, or anything.

Fortunately for me, I'm not really a big fan of most of Morrison's stuff, so in the unlikely event that Alan walked into Central City Comics when I was there, he'd be even more unlikely to catch me out.
