Britain's National Heroes (in US, British, and other publications)
On another board where I was trying to discuss American heroes wearing red, white and blue for my country's Flag Day (June 14th), Tony made this "helpful" post:

So, how about it? British heroes in US, British, or other publications that invoke a patriotic / national flavor?tony ingram wrote: . . . the real red, white and blue should be ...

Well, I think there was Britannia in Flare from Heroic Publications.Lucy McGough wrote:Why are they all male?
And would Iron Lady from Batman Inc. count?

Definitely! But Britannia's physiology looks extremely unrealistic.

Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty is an official designation in this country, whereas... what you said... isn't. At least, not yet.

Thinking about it, I don't think there's ever been a significant Union Jack wearing female hero. But Ireland did have Shamrock. Until she retired to become a hairdresser.

I bet Bruce Wayne got Alfred to do his for him.
I might be able to manage some sort of shapeless burka decorated with the Union Jack, to celebrate our multicultural identity and be, like, vibrant.

For a brief time there was Kelsey Leigh as Lionheart. Would she count, maybe as a Union Jack variant?

Lionessheart?
I like it!!
Seriously, I've never cared for these so-called feminine versions of names. I think it subordinates the female gender.
If you look up "Lioness" in the dictionary it would say that it is a female lion, but if you looked at the definition of "Lion," it would not say "a male lioness."

Oh, dear lord, are we going to get so into being politically correct that you can't say "woman" because there's the "man" in the word, or "person" because "son" is in the word?

Re: Britain's National Heroes (in US, British, and other publications)
Maybe we should also include the "Knights as Superheroes" as being representative of the glory of Britain?
There was Knight and Squire from Batman
and also from DC, Lionheart
Marvel had Sir Steel and Silver Squire in the Freedom's Five.
There was also a Sir Steel with the U.N. Force (not from Marvel) back in 1993.
And, of course, the Knights of Pendragon from Marvel U.K.
