The Web of Fear

Last night, I finally got the opportunity to watch the Doctor Who story I had most dreamed of seeing for over thirty years, when my DVD copy of The Web of Fear turned up in the post, and it was worth the wait. I reread the Target novelisation endlessly back in the 70s, to the point where I knew it off by heart, and I've listened to the soundtrack CD more than once, but to actually see (almost all of) it on screen in all its creepy monochromatic glory after all these years of believing it lost for ever was a totally different experience, and it really is as good as I'd hoped. The London Underground sets are stunningly realistic, the lighting is beautifully atmospheric and the cast are absolutely perfect. If only episode three had been on there as well...

The Web of Fear has now become the biggest selling classic series DVD in the history of the range, breaking the record previously set last year by The Enemy of the World. It sold 15, 000 units in the first week it was on sale. Go, Troughton!  

Until I received my copy of The Web of Fear I had only seen episode one on the Lost in Time DVD.

This story has become my favorite 1960s Doctor Who story, despite episode three refusing to be found!    

Has there been any word on the DVD release of The Underwater Menace? As I understand it, the story was announced for release on Amazon, then withdrawn. Episode two is the only surviving episode I haven't yet seen.

Ah, but has it or hasn't it? Rumours abound that episode three is indeed known to be out there, but for whatever reason has not been handed back to the BBC. Are they true? I couldn't possibly comment...

Only that it's supposed to be sometime later this year. I think Amazon jumped the gun.
