How would you change the current DWM comic

Post by Hourglass on Mon Jan 25, 2010 11:32 am

Say if you had the ability and the authority to make editorial decisions about the DWM comic, how would you alter it? Which artists would you like to see? What type of stories should be used etc.

No particular preference as far as artists go, but I would like someone with a slightly less cartoony style. I think they've really gone too far towards a kiddie friendly style to the detriment of the strip, it works in Doctor Who adventures but not so well in DWM.

I'd reprint stories from pre-relaunch Doctors...

Why not new stories with pre-relaunch Doctors?

'Cos it's even more fanciful that they'd commission material featuring pre-Eccleston Docs!

Depressingly true. OK, then-a slightly less cartoony main strip, and reprints of old stories as a backup. That would be my suggestion. Maybe we could see the Dalek Chronicles again-it's been 15 years or more since they were last reprinted...

Sounds good, and almost feasible that they'd publish with that format.

I dont see why they dont resurrect some of the spin off comic ranges. I'd love to see more Absolm Daak.

Likewise. The Dalek Killer had a lot of unrealised potential, which is odd as he was heavily promoted for awhile. Strangely, neither he nor the Special Execurtive ever really got off the ground as continuing strips despite being reprinted a few times.

I still have my Abslom Daak flexidisc...

Hmm, here's a thought; in the unlikely event that Daak were to appear in the TV show, who could play him? Twenty years ago, it would probably have been Michael Brandon, but I'm not sure about now...

You'd need someone whose quite muscular, has a very aggressive way of talking and would be good in a fight scene.

Sean pertwee possibly?

No, a little too old and too thin in the face-Daak is your basic ruggedly handsome anti-hero...

I dont think Daak need be a British actor though it would be nice if we could think of someone who could play him.

Actually, an American might work better-he always seemed vaguely American...

What about "The Rock". He was in the Doom movie and kind of looks like Daak.

I'd never heard of this bloke, but looking at his photo on wikipedia, he really does look the part, doesn't he! He'd need to grow his hair, but aside from that, give him a chainsaw and a leather jerkin and he's Daak!

I only know him from Doom and apparently he was some sort of Wrestler (I dont watch such stuff). but yeh, if you watch the doom movie you can really see how well he fits the part.

I think he was also in the film The Rock, which is about some chemical weapon that looks like green wine gums being hidden on Alcatraz. Well, i liked it when i was 14...

Anyway, to reply to the thread at hand: More of it.

I'll second that. My favourite period of DWM was when it still had the backup strips, just after it went monthly.

Yeah, he was in WWE - World Wrestling Entertainment (what used to be the World Wrestling Federation or WWF, they changed the name because the World Wildlife Fund sued them!).

Oh, and nobody ever needs to grow their hair for acting work - that's what wigs are for.

And back to the original topic, there is one obvious change in a couple of months time - the cast. The strips will be using Doctor 11 and Amy instead of Doctor 10.

I just got Vworp Vworp and it contains three strips! Two "proper" ones, and a double-page short one. Plus a whole page given over to a reprint of an old story about the cybermen (just a random page not a whole story).

The "proper proper" strip with The Doctor in appears to be setting up a series, it's the Tenth doctor and he meets a new assistant called Ruth... twice!

I'm definitely getting this. It's been a hectic week, or I'd have ordered it already...
