DC Comics Bombshells / Bombshells United
Back in 2015, DC started a comic book series called DC Comics Bombshells, based in part on artwork / statues designed by Ant Lucia that took many of DC's well-known female characters but reimagined into a 1940s world.
The comic series was originally released in a digital format, but also collected into printed comic books.
The first run lasted for 33 issues (in print form), ending in August of 2017.
The following month, the series was relaunched as Bombshells United and Marguerite Bennett continued as the writer. The final (print) issue of Bombshells United (#19) was released earlier this month.
I had really thought / hoped I'd enjoy this series in the beginning, but I gave up on it after issue #12 of the original run. Art was very uneven (they often had different artists for different chapters of the digital version, which mean the art might suddenly change in the middle of the printed copies), and I never really enjoyed the writing itself.
Anybody else buy any? Thoughts?

https://www.facer bought it. I actually assumed it was some sort of all-ages thing like DC Superhero Girls but with better art. That's how little attention I paid.

The concept really intrigued me, focusing on female superheroes (not the Golden Age ladies, though) operating in the days of WWII.tony ingram wrote:https://www.facer bought it. But the art varied, and I got really annoyed when one section in an issue (don't remember which one) showed military vehicles & uniforms that, to me at least, looked more like they would have been circa 1980s/1990s as opposed to 1940s.
But the last straw that really caused me to give up was just the overall writing.
It felt like there was way too much (bad) singing / chanting / Earth-Mother-Goddess type of stuff (that tended to drone on too long) that took away from my enjoyment/ tolerance of the stories. (Whether it fit the theme or not didn't matter if I didn't want to bother with it.)

I do wonder if Lucy would like this.
It even has a version of the Kate Kane Batwoman.
And, yes, having Batwoman dressed as a baseball player actually makes sense for the 1940s since during WWII, there were several women's baseball teams that played each other while the males were off fighting the war. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/All-American_Girls_Professional_Baseball_League)
Oh, and among female heroes reimagined for DC Comics Bombshells is Zatanna!
(And do you know who her bunny is?)

The dangling cigarette . . . the tie . . . the connection to Zatanna . . . isn't it obvious?

John is my hero. Despite the whole constantly getting his friends killed thing.
Or possibly because of it.

I've thought it over, and I've decided I don't want to be your friend any more
