Hellboy
and
The Demon
And if you want Marvel Comics represented, . . .
Modred the Mystic

Modred and the Demon sounds interesting (although I have never read Hellboy) but surely Gargoyle would be a more logical choice than Modred...

I figured an out-and-out human spellcaster would be a better contrast.tony ingram wrote:Modred and the Demon sounds interesting (although I have never read Hellboy) but surely Gargoyle would be a more logical choice than Modred...

I was thinking WWII era and Fighting American was the 50s I think. And, actually, I don't care for the character.

!954, apparently. I rather like what I've seen of the Simon and Kirby stuff, though I wasn't impressed with DC's updated version in the 90s.Silogramsam wrote:I was thinking WWII era and Fighting American was the 50s I think. And, actually, I don't care for the character.

Who's with the New Gods that sort of looks like Firelord?
And would there be any room in that crossover for
The Eternals?

Re: Crossovers you'd like to see
The character who looks like Firelord is Takion, a 90s creation who was much hyped as a major new addition to the New Gods pantheon for the duration of his short lived solo series, and then predictably more or less forgotten about as soon as it finished.

I couldn't find (okay, i didn't look that much) for a Kirby drawing of his New Gods so Takion slipped in.
As far as the Eternals, why not? May as well the Greek and Roman gods too!

I actually preferred the Eternals to the New Gods. I've never really understood why the Fourth World was supposed to be such a big deal, to be honest. I preferred Kirby's Jimmy Olsen.

The good thing about the 4 Kirby books back then was that one didn't need to read all 4 to get the story. One was enough. The only characters that could be seen in each book were Superman (occasionally) and Darkseid (also occasionally in the books other than New Gods itself). It really wasn't until after the books ended and Jimmy went away from all of that stuff, and then other writers took over, did you see the various characters overlap (except, for some reason, the Forever People).

well, in case it doesn't show:
Supercar, Fireball XL-5, Stingray and Thunderbirds (I know other series followed but for me, these four are the four).

Re: Crossovers you'd like to see
I know Jimmy Olsen was technically a part of it, but it didn't feel like it. And I found concepts like the DNA Project more interesting than Apokalips and New Genesis. For me, the only really interesting character to come out of all that was Darkseid himself, and I still prefer Marvel's Thanos.Silogramsam wrote:

This would actually have been an obvious crossover. A shame nobody had the foresight to realise that at the time.Silogramsam wrote:well, in case it doesn't show:

It was acknowledged somewhere (I think in Stingray) that the world of Stingray contained the world of Fireball XL-5. And I think that Gordon Tracy was once with WASP (?) - the underwater patrol force (from Stingray) but I couldn't tell in what episodes. But there was certainly no crossover.
And why was it, since all but one voice actor was British, and the shows were written, filmed, directed, created, etc. by British people, all of the leading men in each of the series, all had "American" accents?

Re: Crossovers you'd like to see
I think for two reasons: firstly, because Anderson wanted to sell the shows to an American audience, and secondly because the feeling was that a British audience would consider American heroes more glamorous.

Re: Crossovers you'd like to see
There probably is . . . except it would be some sort of freeze-dried processed powder concoction. Sort of like Tang, the imitation orange juice, which I never tried, but my older sister loved that crap. Then again, we were kids back during the days of the Apollo space missions, and I remember staying up late to watch Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin walk on the moon. (I can't always remember it was Michael Collins who was the third member of the crew, but Aldrin I can always remember because he had grown up in my hometown in NJ and there was a parade for him in town after he came back from space.)Lucy McGough wrote:Ah, you wouldn't like it. You also should understand that New Jersey was (and may still be) the densest state in the U.S. (most densely populated state per a square mile, that is).Lucy McGough wrote:Oh. Northwich only has about 20,000. And Shotley has fewer than 3,000.

Yes, we wouldn't want him having to stop and buy sandwiches from a service station. They're notoriously overpriced even in the asteroid belt.

not too many sandwiches or I'll have to let out my asteroid belt by a notch or two; maybe my asteroid suspenders too
not much coffee either; not sure where I can pull over along the way..

I've realised since this conversation started that we are talking about two different things. What you call suspenders over there does not appear to be the same item of clothing that we refer to as suspenders over here.Silogramsam wrote:

I just looked it up, and NO, not the same at all. We use the word to mean material going from the front of pants, over the shoulder to the back to hold them up. Not how you use it at all.
Frightening maybe, but you do wonder how that would work on a spacesuit.

And "pants" is another word we use to mean something different. Say "pants" in Britain and you're referring to underwear. Not something you'd attach your braces...er, "suspenders"...to.
