Billie Piper says there may yet be a Who movie

Post by tony ingram on Fri Jan 29, 2010 5:53 pm

According to Billie Piper, interviewed by Sara Cox on Radio 1 yesterday, a Doctor Who movie is still under consideration-and 'they want David (Tennant) to do it'. I can't help thinking a big budget movie starring Tennant would totally undermine Matt Smith as the new Doctor. Thoughts?

It can be heard here http://blogtorwho.blogspot.com/2010/01/billie-talks-doctor-who-movie.html

Tending to agree. Four years of the much hyped Mr Tennant is more than enough for me. A lovely bloke, I'm sure, and a genuine fan of the series which helped, but after last Christmas I would be quite happy never to see him again...

A movie wont happen. DW just isn't popular enough.

It's almost invariably in the top five most watched programmes and generates a fortune in merchandising. I don't think its mainstream popularity can be doubted.

Maybe for a TV series in the UK. For a movie?

Doubt it, personally.

I'm not so surte, but I hope you two are right as I don't think a movie starring a former Doctor would help Matt Smith get established, and I'd hate to see him fail.

Unless it was Paul McGann, of course. If they were planning a movie with Paul McGann, Matt Smith could go and play in the traffic as far as I'm concerned...

If they were to do one i'd prefer the story of the time war, with Paul McGann in most of it and then turning into Christopher Eccleston at the end (maybe not even showing the full regeneration if he doesn't want to come back). It'd make the most sense too as that's the one regeneration that was never "seen" (well unless it's been in a book or something)

Nope, never been seen in a book either-the eighth Doctor books line had a deliberately open ending.

I've always liked to imagine that the leather jacket Eccleston wore was the one formerly worn by Fitz Kreiner, the eighth Doctor's longest running companion in the books...

If The Thick of It can have a movie, then so can Doctor Who.

Thanks mate Very Happy

And no, it wasn't. But Doctor Who is more likely to be awesome than The Thick of It. I mean, have you read the Telegraph article containing spoilers for the Matt Smith series (dunno what number we're supposed to give it)?

I have-and I'm getting more excited the more I read. The new TARDIS set sounds great, and at last they're in a village!!! I thought for awhile the TARDIS had developed some sort of fault that tied it permanently to London or Cardiff...

I had my doubts about Series Matt, but that article completely dispelled them and I'm actually really excited now.

I'm taking a perverse pleasure in Moffat's refusal to call it 'series five'. He'll be overruled, of course, but at least he seems to be on the same page as the long term fans...

Well I'm calling it season 31, on account of it being the 31st full season of Doctor Who.

Either that or 'Derek'.

I thought you were calling your new baby rabbit Derek.

I'll go with season 31.

We were, but 'er indoors says Derek reminds her of my uncle, who we can't stand. We're now leaning towards 'Fudge'.

I think in the interests of pleasing everyone, the new series should be officially classified as series 1/5/31. Or possibly Doctor Who V3.1.

Yes-that's another good reason to call it 31! Though how many will stick around anyway now that Mr Tennant and Really Tedious Davies are gone remains to be seen...
