Thor: Goddess of Thunder?
Marvel replacing their major characters with new versions is nothing new. Steve Rogers has been replaced as Captain America for lengthy runs on two occasions (and for a briefer run on a third) and is apparently about to be again, Tony Stark gave up the Iron Man suit for a time, and even Spider-Man has spent the last few months brain swapped with Dr Octopus. But the new Thor (who is certainly not the first, or even the second, substitute Thor Marvel have given us) is breaking new ground...by getting a sex change! So, my question is:if Marvel wanted a female Thor, why not just use established character Thor Girl? And is anyone really going to take this seriously?

Yes, I bet nobody asked her if that was what she would like.

Given that we're talking superheroes, I'm not sure how seriously I'd take any of it. I don't see why this in particular would be more or less serious than anything else.
But, with this, why not? He's either an alien or a god, who knows what that means in terms of sex-fluidity? I say all that matters is if the story is good.

Re: Thor: Goddess of Thunder?
Is there any chance this Fem-Thor could just be Thor himself in disguise? (Hey, there was this myth where Thor disguised himself as a woman to reclaim his hammer . . . )

Re: Thor: Goddess of Thunder?
No. Now that more information has emerged, it appears the original Thor will still be around, but will no longer be the god of thunder. It's to do with the inscription on the hammer about "whomsoever be worthy" getting the power of Thor. Supposedly, Thor is no longer worthy and can't lift the hammer, and this new character picks it up.MajorHoy wrote:Is there any chance this Fem-Thor could just be Thor himself in disguise? We've got plenty of people who think they're geniuses without the alcohol. Most of them are talking heads on CNN, Fox News, etc. At least, then, we know where they are and can easily avoid them (sort of like crossing the street to avoid someone unseemly).

Then they must have a death duel to see which one can keep the name "Dave" and which will have to be known by Osgood Dullsworth.tony ingram wrote:I know two people called Dave...Mbast1 wrote:Two people can't have the same name?MajorHoy wrote:And he had the name a few centuries longer.Lucy McGough wrote:Her name is Thor.

I reckon Dave Bateman will win. Dave Mullet's got to be 65 if he's a day. I enjoyed reading the Jane Foster Thor stories.
What do any you think about Natalie Portman becoming Thor in the recently announced Thor: Love and Thunder film?
I'm looking forward to it.

It should be interesting, though I'm not sure how the mainstream movie audience will respond after how divisive it was to the comics audience...karatattoo wrote:I enjoyed reading the Jane Foster Thor stories.

Re: Thor: Goddess of Thunder?
When it comes to comic books, films and TV, or politics, everything nowadays is divisive.
I think the comics audience and the movie audience are two very different entities.
Most people only know any of these characters through their film incarnations, so their reactions may be not be the same as those familiar with comic books.
We'll just have to wait and see.
