The Return of Doctor Mysterio

Just forty minutes to go before the Doctor hits our screens again for another Christmas extravaganza.

A lovely, heartwarming tribute to the original Superan movies, with a ot of funny lines. Liked it. Best Christmas Special since A Christmas Carol.

I loved all the comic-related jokes and references. A real treat for comics fans.

I don't know, I wanted to like it, and I certainly didn't hate it. I just thought it was too comic-book-y, in the sense that they took some of the tropes, scenes and an overly simplistic view of comics and built a less than stellar story.
As I said, I didn't hate it, I just didn't think it was as good as it could have been.

Well, they did have to appeal to the mainstream TV audience, most of whom don't read comics, and I guess those tropes are a kind of convenient shorthand, if you see what I mean. At least they made an effort to get the details right, unlike the 1987 movie The Lost Boys, which referenced comics from the 1950s but used what were obviously comics from the 1980s to stand in for them...

I do, and I agree. I just thought it made the show a bit flat for me, it took away from the interest.

I actually rewatched it on Thursday night, and still really enjoyed it.
