I've always found those things interesting. Who's Who, History of the DCU, SF&O.

For me, nothing's ever bettered the original Who's Who and Marvel Handbooks.

I did prefer the DC versions of Who's Who in general . . . the first few versions of the Marvel Handbooks got soooooooo bogged down with unneeded information for the more well-known characters that it sometimes got boring for those multiple-page entries.

Surely, though, whether information is unneeded or not largely depends on whether or not you, personally, already knew it?

Part of it also depended on how it was presented, and it was done in a way that was quite dry.
The typeface they used on newsprint wasn't exactly conducive to long reads, and the few illustrations they had weren't all that helpful in making that dull text enticing.

I liked it. But then, I used to read encyclopedias for fun... Very Happy

Same. And the dictionary.

I don't know that I have a preferred format. I just like those kinds of handbooks. Entirely made up, but I so enjoy them.
