Do you think it would be possible to get a rumor started on the internet that Marvel was acquiring the BBC? You could say things like Doctor Who would be getting Daisy Duck as his next companion and they were going to have some mutants as new characters on Downton Abbey.

It might make a splendid April Fools gotcha.

It wouldn't work. The BBC is not a commercial organisation, it effectively belongs to the British taxpayer. Nobody could ever legally acquire it. BBC Worldwide could try and buy Marvel, though, if they had the cash.

Instead of the BBC, your rumour could be about Marvel buying ITV, who make Downton Abbey.
