Wasn't there talk of a showdown between both the new and old cybermen?

Well I looked at the lazer beams from the ship battle and the blue matches that of the beam fired in Silver Nemesis (yes I am that lame) so I think its still possible.

I'm having serious trouble getting excited, even though I'd like to. Like so mucvh else about the 21st century, though, I just find NuWho so generally.... obnoxious.

I can understand that-but this is nu-nu-Who, which may surprise you yet. I'm not expecting huge departures from the style of thelast five years, but I do expect the quality of the writing to improve based on Moffat's previous work.codywillis1 wrote:I'm having serious trouble getting excited, even though I'd like to. True. And the clips do look a bit more atmospheric, and Smith (while in some ways looking like he's getting exactly the same kind of dialogue ) does look a bit less punchable than his predecessor.
I'm still firmly stuck in "whatever" mode, though, at present.

Where would i start? Monsters of Rock 1980... clearly.
Though doubtless we'd wind up in a field in 1780 and have to foil a plot by clockwork kung-fu monks

The American trailer is a lot more promising. Not keen on the dialogue I've heard Smith get so far, though. Very Tennantesque "I'm weally cool and well 'ard, I am".

Re: New trailer
Watched the trailer and the show looks like it has for the last...God knows how long. It looks crap. And the new Doc looks like the hero guy in Terrahawks. My God - is this the best we've got out there?
Re: New trailer
Someone once told me when things are revisited they are never the same as they are written by fan boys who don't see the bigger picture. RTD and Moffat both are victim of this. We get the crappy fan wishes of Dalek Vs cybermen but because they remember how loathed they were for being doctor who fans, they pitched it for viewers of Buffy and Twilight to appear cool and hip. in short they are self loathing fan boys and sadly this reflects in their work.
Meanwhile writers like Paul Cornell and Shearman who are passionate about Doctor Who (classic series) continue to grow from strength to strength as they see the excellent qualities the classic show had to offer and still has, and have chosen to expand on them rather than say "oh anything before 1999 was crap and shouldn't be copied".
In short if you love something but feel ashamed of it then what you produce will be crap.
If you love something and want to carry it on as it then it will be fine fine.

Re: New trailer
Probably not, but it may be the best we've got who's under 30, and the BBC seems to have decided that Who needs to appeal to the yoof, so I doubt we'll ever get a Doctor over 35 again...GBF wrote:Watched the trailer and the show looks like it has for the last...God knows how long. Re: New trailer
Well, that's okay - is this one incarnation 11? if so only two more to go!! I still think a bteter idea would have been to have Tennant turn in to Simm - the Master would be the Doctor...now I'd watch THAT...
Re: New trailer
This guy is number 11, yes-but I suspect that with the Time Lords gone, the 12 regenerations limit no longer applies...GBF wrote:Well, that's okay - is this one incarnation 11? if so only two more to go!! Well its not exactly a direct continuation, more of a Doctor who unbound: What if the shows writers smoked too much hash in their youth.

Maybe '13' in Time Lord speak means 50 billion - you know, like the way these Bible bashers tell you that a 'God' year may be millions of ours to enable them to fit the dinosaurs in...

Dinosaurs are a hoax, didn't you know that? God created fossils to mislead archeologists (he has a wicked sense of humour. I'm cautiously optimistic. I've read a couple of interviews with Moffat lately, and he seems to have a clearer idea of what Doctor Who should be than Davies did.Lucy McGough wrote:Don't worry. The new series is going to be ace

Mr Davies is rumoured to be pitching an Americanised version of the show to the US. They're welcome to it, I think...codywillis1 wrote:To be fair, he could hardly have any LESS.

I'm very happy to inform that most of his efforts in the USA have failed. Even his biggest project Torchwood isn't fairing to well as fox want to remove the homosexuality of Jack, something RTD is refusing.
I'm hoping the USA are smart enough to see RTD does not equal quallity.

Re: New trailer
I must confess, having watched the BBC America trailer a few more times, I'm starting to get a bit more enthused. Almost looks season 26ish in a way (I suppose it's World War II and those vampires). Fingers crossed. It certainly looks all round moodier and more atmospheric than the RTD romantic comedy version.

I'm excited at the prospect of seeing the new Silurians. They're a monster who, like the Cybermen, you can basically redesign however many times you want, since there could be any number of varieties!

Everybody knows the fossils were put there by Slartibartfast. Also the ice ages actually only lasted a few minutes and the reason nobody could penetrate into the interior of Australia for so long was because the paint on the devil's rock mountain thing was still wet.

There's a clip from the vampire one online.

Re: New trailer
I watched Woss last night and soon goon was on whom I believe is the next Doctor. What a strange looking boy! Watched the preview - shades of Hammer Horror - the man who can zip thru space and time, visit strange worlds and stranger species seems to be fighting Vampirella and her sisters. I was expecting MJ (Michael Jackson NOT Mary Jane) to start strutting around, grabbing crotches and spinning. So original!! Still, it beats some stretched skin between two sticks! And why was that Dalek wearing soldiers webbing??!! Cynical? You bet. Why? Take a look at what's on offer from one of the greatest characters ever to - er - appear anywhere...
Re: New trailer
The Dalek was wearing webbing for story related reasons; that episode is set in World War II, and if you look closely, our tin plated chum has a small Union Jack just below his eye stalk...

For anyone on here who doesnt like the new series I strong,y sugest trying the big finish audios. They are very strong (had a bit of a dip between 70-90) and capture the classic who feel brilliantly.
