Happy 80th Anniversary to Midnight!
First appearance: Smash Comics #18
(cover-dated January 1941; on-sale date of November 20, 1940 per the GCD)
Yeah, Midnight didn't rate a cover appearance (not even a side headshot!) when he first appeared, but that would eventually change.
From issue #18,
Written and drawn by Jack Cole, if the character seems a bit . . . similar . . . to The Spirit, well . . . there's a reason for that.
