I read that when it first came out (yeah, I know, I'm old) and I STILL think it's really well done. The art was good, and the story was nicely self-contained. I didn't even mind the ending. I wasn't upset when DC retconned it post-Crisis, but it worked as it was to make it a complete story.

I got that issue, too, when it was originally released.
(Can't remember if I had a subscription through DC to TB&tB at that time or not.)

I bought everything at that time at my local United Dairy Farmer. Small convenience store chain. And they got what they got, meaning I missed things sometimes.
