Re: The New Doctor
Yeah, seen it. Didn't really like it, sorry. Smith is fine, but it all just seems same old, same old to me. Quite liked the first 15 minutes (as others have said, I think the kid Amelia/Amy was better than the grown-up one!) and can't help think the whole episode would have been better if it'd stayed on that track. But it was soon back to rush rush rush, yell yell, yell, jabber jabber jabber while Murray Gold once more attempts to make you bleed out of your ears and a bunch of extras gawp up at a spaceship in the sky above them (like, wow, cause we've never seen that on NuHu before ).
I may call it a day, to be honest.

The only one who stayed significantly longer was Tom Baker, and it killed his career. Hmm, another negative verdict-but you're in the minority this time, I think. I popped into uber fan Ian Levine's forum earlier, and even he liked it-which is pretty much a first for any episode since 1989...
Really? I thought Levine was a total NuHu squeer?!

Re: The New Doctor
Sorry to be so down on this new series, peeps - but everybody I've spoken to (and a couple of those are REAL die-hard Who types) are not very happy with this stuff. Cody hit the nail on the head above with his "yell, yell" bit. As I said before, the producers really need to make up their minds where they want this to go. Or maybe they have...

Aren't I a real fan? I'm working my way through the classic series and everythingGBF wrote:Sorry to be so down on this new series, peeps - but everybody I've spoken to (and a couple of those are REAL die-hard Who types) are not very happy with this stuff.
I even acted in a Sparacus play the other week.

GBF is not a fan of anything made after about 1979, and will certainly be unaware of the glory that is Sparacus. Your fan credentials are not in dispute, don't worry.Lucy McGough wrote:Aren't I a real fan? Re: The New Doctor
I'll rise to Ingram's conclusions: I'm a HUGE fan of a lot of things since 1979 (where he gets that date from I don't know) - and Lucy is one of them! I just like GOOD stuff, that's all. And this bilge isn't even GOOD bilge. As for your being a real fan - I didn't say your weren't and I'm sure you are...but being a fan doesn't mean you are right. It just means you are a fan and more likely to see things the way you want. I LOVE the concept of Doctor Who. It's BRILLIANT. I just wish it were better than it is and as good as it could be. That's my opinion - everybody else has theirs...and I have mine. What the hell is a 'Sparacus' play? Do you mean 'Spartacus'??
Re: The New Doctor
Nope. Sparacus is...well...a legend in Doctor Who fan circles, a living piece of art, a...well...oh, sod it. Anybody got a link to one of his Youtube bits?GBF wrote:I'll rise to Ingram's conclusions: I'm a HUGE fan of a lot of things since 1979 (where he gets that date from I don't know) - and Lucy is one of them! Excellent stuff! For the uninitiated, these are actual transcripts from online conversations Spara has had, turned into animations by some enterprising soul. Truly, he is a paragon of Who fans!

As a fan, my opinion (it'ssss all mine! my preciousssss!) is that no subsequent Doctor can ever be as good as William Hartnell

That's because you've only just started on the Troughton era and are suffering from a Hartnell overload, hmmm? Hmmm? But Billy is great, I agree...

Re: The New Doctor
It's a great story, it is such a shame so little of Troughton's era remains in one piece! If they were going to wipe stories, they could at least have wiped the lousy ones-how unfair is it that about 70% of Troughton's televised episodes remain lost but we've still got the bloody Dominators?Lucy McGough wrote:I know this is off-topic, but I've nearly finished 'Tomb of the Cybermen' and it is AMAZING.
