I really liked the first series, but I lost track. I think I'd like to catch up, and this does look interesting.

I'm not sure how tightly it will be connected to the original series and overall continuity.  It sounds like it's supposedly taking place about thirty years in the future, which means once it's finished it may never be mentioned again.
