I think this is quite sweet and may encourage others to participate. A comic by children for children is a great idea.

I remember in the 90's some kid drew his own strip which appeared in virtually full-page form on the Fan Club page (it was after that page was renamed "Off the wall" whenever that was). He even appeared on the news!
