The Hand of Fear, Tonight and Tomorrow, 7.40 on BBC4
Just for information: this classic Tom Baker story, Lis sladen's final regular outing as Sarah Jane Smith in the series, is being repeated tonight and tomorrow at 7.40 on BBC4 (parts one and two tonight, concluding with parts three and four tomorrow) as a tribute to Lis Sladen. It will also apparently be available on iplayer.

I caught eps one & two! I very much enjoyed it. Liz'/Sarah's outfit though! goodness me! Did she have `any` say in what her character wore that story?

It appears not, judging by her comments in at least one interview. But hers was hardly the worst fashion crime of the seventies!

Seeing the story again, shows up quite a few inconsistancies-but I really enjoyed it! Nice stuff from Judith Paris as the `female` Eldrad- but Stephen Thorne! Goodness me! he does overcook the broth somewhat I think.

Stephen Thorne also played Omega in The Three Doctors, a performance containing more ham than than the average branch of Morrisons...

I actually watched the last episode - what a hoot! That Paris woman was the for runner to that bird in XMen - fantastic! And how beautiful Ms Sladen is. And I say IS...

Lis never really grew old, did she? She looked as good at 63 as she did at 26...

Hope BBC4 show more Dr Who soon, but it was very good to have the hand of fear repeated in memory of Lis, Sarah Jane the best companion ever!

I think they should have given us a short run of some of her best stories over a couple of weeks. Maybe The Time Warrior, Ark in Space, Pyramids of Mars and The Brain of Morbius as well as Hand.

They should have given us all of the Sarah Jane stories!

Maybe if Hand of Fear went down well, more will follow-but I can't see BBC4 giving us 80 episodes of classic Who, sadly.Lucy McGough wrote:They should have given us all of the Sarah Jane stories!

Put them on BBC Three, then. What else is it good for?

if only we could have a load of episodes over a long peroid of time on BBC3 or 4. They finaly gave the Goodies a 8 week repeat run last year, so something similar with Doctor Who would be good to start with

I'd go for a complete run of episodes from Jon Pertwee's last season through to Tom Baker's last.

I'd settle for a complete run from the fist episode - I'd love to see the Mekanoids and the Menoptra (think that's what they're called) and Frazer Hines, complete with kilt! (Not that I like kilts...or Frazer...or men...)
Re: The Hand of Fear, Tonight and Tomorrow, 7.40 on BBC4
I think the BBC shy away from repeating black & white stuff because they have this bizarre idea that modern audiences can't cope with it. But yeah, a run of sixties Who would be very welcome-it's probably my favourite period overall, which is odd given that I missed it first time around.GBF wrote:I'd settle for a complete run from the fist episode - I'd love to see the Mekanoids and the Menoptra (think that's what they're called) and Frazer Hines, complete with kilt! So, are you saying you dislike Frazer Hines?

Not really - Frazer is okay. I only have vague memories of him in Dr Who. Who was the girl with him? I agree with what you say about the B&W TV from all that time ago - some people think if it's not in colour it's worthless. They must mean things like OL, TZ, The Day the Earth Stood Still, Citizen Kane, Frankenstein, etc., etc. Sad really...

There were several-Polly (and Ben), Victoria and Zoe. Frazer's time on the show spanned all of them.GBF wrote:Not really - Frazer is okay. I only have vague memories of him in Dr Who. Who was the girl with him?
Thing is, it's the schedulers who think that way-I don't think it's the viewers.I agree with what you say about the B&W TV from all that time ago - some people think if it's not in colour it's worthless. Soon the BBC will have to repeat classic Doctor Who because they won't be able to afford to make original programmes...
They could turn BBC Three into 'The Doctor Who Channel'.

I wouldn't say it was the point, but having strings certainly added to their charm...
