Your All-Time Favourite 2000AD Strip/Character
Top 2000AD Strips of All Time?
I've been re-reading a lot of old 2000AD (and Star-Lord, and Tornado) lately, as I've recently had cause to write a couple of pieces on the subject and also just stuck a load up on ebay. It got me thinking about the series' from the Galaxy's Greatest Comic which I most fondly remember, and compiling my own top ten-and I thought I'd ask for other people's favourites. There's a poll attached for your all time favourite, but your list doesn't necessarily have to include any of the poll options.
My personal top ten?
1) Robo-Hunter (original series)
2) Strontium Dog
3) The Mind of Wolfie Smith (yes, really!)
4) Meltdown Man
5) Skizz
6) Return to Armageddon
7) Nikolai Dante
8 ) Judge Dredd
9) ABC Warriors
10) Nemesis the Warlock
There are others, plenty of them (The V'C's, Ace Trucking Co and Ro-Busters to name three) but I think those are the ten that really stand out, for me.

I'm not familiar with all of them, but I'd go with Sam as well. I'd put Rogue Trooper above Strontium Dog, though.

I always thought Rogue Trooper was rather limited. Once his original quest was over, he seemed to have no real purpose. I think 2000AD had trouble finding anything to do with him, really, which is why the series ended up in such a mess. Rogue is pretty much toxic now, there's a bar on using him as I recall.

Rogue Trooper just wandered around all over the place while his so-called buddies bickered and told each other to synth out. Gunnar was the only one who appreciated the existentialist horror of their situation, but that aspect was pushed to the margins in favour of panels full of people shooting each other. Bagman said one interesting thing in his entire career. It was like a very long car journey to a distant destination while children in the back squabble and ask if they're nearly there yet, only with guns.
I had to vote for The Ballad of Halo Jones even though Judge Dredd kind of is 2000 AD, because it's so well-written, well-drawn and coherent. Not fair putting an Alan Moore strip in there. As Tharg noticed, he always wins the awards

That is actually the best summing up of Rogue Trooper I've ever read.Lucy McGough wrote:It was like a very long car journey to a distant destination while children in the back squabble and ask if they're nearly there yet, only with guns.

That would be a bit hard for me since I've never bought / read an issue of 2000 A.D.; I've only seen the characters in comic books that were printed for the U.S. market.Lucy McGough wrote:Make one!MajorHoy wrote:So, will there also be a poll on Worst 2000AD Strips of All Time?

Difficult, given how many strips have appeared in 2000AD, but I'll give it a go...
