Asterix, anyone?
I picked up a couple of the asterix albums recently and I've kind of rediscovered my childhood love of this stuff. Anyone else a fan? I know half of what I like about it is the use of language which is actually down to the translators, but somehow that just adds to its charm...

I love Asterix! I first heard about the series through Mr. Bean, who (if I'm remembering correctly) got himself an Asterix book for Christmas or something. My dad explained to me what it was (the way people chortled after he said "Ah, Asterix!" or whatever made me think I'd missed a really good joke, you see), and so the next time I was at the library I sought Asterix out. Been seeking more volumes out ever since.
I agree about the peculiar language. It's strangely charming.

I love the names! How did they get away with a Druid callled Getafix?

I wouldn't say I was a fan, but I do want to read more of it. I took French in college, and it was something the French exchange student recommended, and it was fun. I'll have to add it to my list of things to get to.

"Getafix". Holy cow. I have somehow never caught that.
