Favourite Humour Titles Part 2: IPC/Odhams
02: Your All Time Favourite Comic: a Poll (category 2: humour titles part 2)
Part two of the poll (see part one, above, for the point of it all) is the humour titles of IPC/Fleetway and Odhams (I've omitted Fantastic and Terrific from this category as neither carried a significant amount of humour material; however, they will be in the Foreign Reprint category, as they were predominantly reprinting US Marvel stories).
For me: Whoopee!

Much more familiar with the titles in this list, although again I didn't get any of the weekly issues regularly. But I did get, every year and for many years, the Monster Fun and Krazy annuals - so if someone can tell me which one of those often had a longer and one-off strip included (one of them was called "Traffic Treasure Island" or something) I might be able to choose! I loved them both.

Idd have to say Buster, it was a bloody good read and excellent value for its day. I also liked the slightly darker tone of the characters it had rather than comics like the Beano.

A 'nice but not great' selection; I've gone for Buster.

Curiously, I always tended to associate Buster more with adventure strips than humour-it had far more of that kind of stuff up until about 1980. The Leopard from Lime St, Seeker from Space, Crabbe's Crusaders...Spiff_B wrote:A 'nice but not great' selection; I've gone for Buster.

My Buster reading was mostly early 80s, so only the Leopard springs to mind, adventure-wise.tony ingram wrote:Curiously, I always tended to associate Buster more with adventure strips than humour-it had far more of that kind of stuff up until about 1980. Smash! also featured the first British originated Hulk strip. Not a lot of people know that...alanultron5 wrote:SMASH 1966 ran my all time favourite strip "Moon Madness" I did like the post March 1969 SMASH too!

Here I've gone for Monster Fun, but it could have easily been Cheeky, which was more anarchic and quite original in it's early days.
Buster and Whizzer and Chips were both great as well. I quite liked Plug also.

Few people seem to remember Plug! I liked it (particularly Eebagoom, a very funny strip) but was always a bit confused as to why Plug was so different to his Bash St Kids incarnation; he seemed older in his own title, and had a pet monkey instead of canine companion Pug from the Pup Parade. Being by then a reader of DC's superhero comics as well, with their multiple versions of characters, I eventually decided the Plug in the solo comic must be the Plug of Earth 2!

Buster, Monster Fun and Jackpot for me. Being a vintage horror fan and all things monsters or oddball people (lapping up all things 'gruesome' that my parents would allow me to own/read/watch, eg. The Munsters, Horror Laffs cards and Top Trumps, Hammer Horror double bills during the late 1970s), those particular three called out to me growing up.

A Monster Fun fan! Excellent! The IPC titles excelled at humorous horror strips. Do you remember Shiver & Shake, too?
