Holidays.
I don't know what anyone's views are, but I just wanted to wish everyone a Merry Christmas, Happy Kwanzaa, Winter Solstice, or whatever other holiday you celebrate (I think Hannukah is over). Hope you all have a great 2013, too!

I wasn't aware we'd already had one that wasn't up to scratch. Nobody tells me these things.

Well, I was very disappointed with the last 2013. Luckily, it's now been rebooted...Lucy McGough wrote:I wasn't aware we'd already had one that wasn't up to scratch. Nobody tells me these things.

And here I thought this would be a thread about exotic vacations and adventures. Phooey.
By the way, Bastille Day is coming up . . . this is the perfect time to sharpen your guillotine's blade!
The 14th happens to also be National Nude Day. Coincidence? You be the judge!

2013 was less than stellar for me.
We should all post pictures of tasteful artistic nudes on National Nudes Day. I am not in favour of Bastille Day as I like Queen Elizabeth II, who is mint.

Apparently National Nude Day is July 14th. You learn something new every day. Not a widely celebrated holiday, it appears...

I will celebrate it by increasing your awareness of fine art, like Titian an' ting.

Don't forget, tomorrow in National Nude Day.
Has everybody already picked out what outfits they're going to wear? Is anybody having a black tie cocktail party to celebrate it?

To celebrate the occasion, I shall spend the day naked. Underneath my clothes.

Yeah, but it's half past seven as far as St Swithin's concerned. Or it would be, if he wasn't dead.

But, how did you celebrate St. Swithin's Day?tony ingram wrote:Yeah, but it's half past seven as far as St Swithin's concerned. Or it would be, if he wasn't dead.
Did you send out St. Swithin's cards? Decorate the house and put up a St. Swithin's apple tree? Sing St. Swithin's Day carols? Eat traditional St. Swithin's Day food, like eggs sunny-side up? Play "Pin the Umbrella on St. Swithin"?

Now here's a good reason for a holiday: on July 17, 1955, Disneyland opened in Anaheim, California.

I've never been, but I've seen photos of the place and all those people dressed as giant mice always freaked me out. Enough to give a child nightmares, I'd have thought.

Re: Holidays.
But, for some reason, kids often seem to love that crap. They'd be happy if their stuffed animals suddenly came to life and wanted to play; adults would break out the sub-machine guns and flame-throwers and try to destroy the Hellspawns.tony ingram wrote:I've never been, but I've seen photos of the place and all those people dressed as giant mice always freaked me out. Re: Holidays.
And for Sunday July 20th it looks like we get
* Moon Day
* National Lollipop Day
* National Ice Cream Day (3rd Sunday in July)
* Ugly Truck Day
but these may only be U.S. celebrations.
However, it was on July 20th in 1189 that Richard I of England was officially invested as Duke of Normandy, and both Rex Williams and Ed Giddins were born on July 20th (but not in the same year).

Yup! Can't believe he kept the name too. Being named after a toe is just insulting, whereas lots of girls are indirectly named after the moon (Diana, Cynthia, Phoebe, Delia, etc).

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Don't_Eat_the_Yellow_Snow_SuiteDreamed I was an Eskimo
Frozen wind began to blow
Under my boots and around my toes
The frost that bit the ground below
It was a hundred degrees below zero...
And my mama cried
And my mama cried
Nanook, a-no-no
Nanook, a-no-no
Don't be a naughty Eskimo
Save your money, don't go to the show
Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Oh, oh" Oh
Well I turned around and I said "Ho, Ho"
And the northern lights commenced to glow
And she said, with a tear in her eye
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"
"Watch out where the huskies go, and don't you eat that yellow snow"

Friday the 26th is Carl Jung's birthday!
(So what if he died in 1961?)
It's also National Dance Day (here in the U.S., though I don't think the government recognizes it).
