Doctor Who Magazine appears to have confirmed that, despite the expectations of the fans and indeed of the actors, none of the pre-2005 Doctors will appear in the 50th Anniversary Special. Apparently, Steven Moffat doesn't want it to be about "nostalgia", which some might think is an odd way to look at an anniversary. There's an online petition here aiming to make the BBC change its collective mind...

I've signed the petition and advertised it on Twitter. Whoever created that petition is a genius.

Or just a desperate Who fan hoping for a last minute miracle. But, it worked in 1985...

Oh, in 1985 it went far beyond a petition. Google "Doctor in Distress"... Very Happy

Oh, that Doctor In Distress thing. That sounds like it was awful. Weren't they not allowed to use the proper terms for the monsters and characters?

I think what we really need is Doctor In Distress 2. Complete with Matt Smith using his sonic screwdriver for autotune.

awful it may have been, but the bad publicity generated by that whole campaign was what got the show back on air in '86.

That means Sylvestor McCoy might have never got the chance to play the Doctor.

The initial surge seems to have tailed off after 500, but they're still trickling in, I see...

I'm going to sign this, too. One of the things I was most looking forward to about this special was the return of an old Doctor or two.

The BBC's own Points of View message board seems to suggest many felt the same way. Curiously, the BBC have made no comment.

Perhaps they've realised they've dropped a clanger.
