Spoilers, I think. About Man of Steel.
I saw Man of Steel last night. So, my thoughts:
Spoilers
I thought it was a well-done movie, just not a well-done Superman movie. I read Mark Waid's review just now (http://thrillbent.com/blog/man-of-steel-since-you-asked/) and he perfectly encapsulates the issues I had. And, of course, some of the comments on various sites encapsulates the problems. People LIKE what I think was wrong with it (TOO violent, he didn't seem to care about the deaths which HAD to be happening, and Superman killed. Really, he did) and I just don't care. Yeah, I know, it's "new" and "modern", but that's the problem. It gives people what they want at the basest level, violence porn (as has been said in other places) and not what Superman really is. He is BETTER THAN THAT. Or he's not Superman.

Yeah, I remember when I was a kid Superman killed some mass murderers and he was so upset he developed an alternate personality to cope with it. I haven't seen it, but if Superman's an un-conflicted killer I don't really know if I want to, either. YOU GOT ME WORRIED, MAN!!!

You weren't supposed to read it if you haven't seen it! Sorry if I worried you.
I wouldn't say he's unconflicted, clearly he responds to it. I just don't like that he did it at all. That's me, though.
Although, what worries me as much are the fans who not only accept it, but applaud it. One guy even wrote that if you're not going to write Superman as a killer (put him into a conflict that requires it) then you have no business writing him. Clearly this was directed at Mark Waid.

...I'm sorry, but why would writing Superman as a killer be a prerequisite FOR writing him? That just baffles and angers me at the same time.

Some people believe that their version of things is the only correct one. That's the best answer I can give, since I don't get it beyond that.

Haven't seen the movie . . . don't know if / when I will.
Then again, I didn't see the one with Brandon Routh, and I don't even remember if I saw the last Christopher Reeve one.
(And I haven't completely seen any Batman movies since the one with Danny DeVito as The Penguin and Michelle Pfeiffer as Catwoman.)

The Adam West movie is the only movie you will ever need.

Please, no.Lucy McGough wrote:The Adam West movie is the only movie you will ever need.
As I've mentioned before, I watched the TV series when it first came out as a little kid and loved it, but as I grew older I began to dislike too many things about the writing and the "acting". I can still sometimes watch an episode or two, but it really has to be in limited doses.

We'll have to agree to disagree
