The first Asterix volume created without Rene Goscinny or Albert Uderzo, Asterix and the Picts, comes out in October, but nervousness at the new creative team of Jean-Yves Ferri and Didier Conrad have resulted in the first print run for the French edition being only two million, a million down on the previous volume. Of course, that doesn't take into account the international translated editions and it will still be probably the best selling comic this year, but it's still worrying...

Umm, remind me again: how many copies did the best selling American comic this year so far sell?
Maybe it's not so worrying after all. Twisted Evil

How many countries is Asterix popular in? I don't know if it has much presence here in the states (though I have seen some volumes crammed in to the graphic novel section at Barnes and Noble stores), and I have no idea if it would be successful in Asian countries.

I know it's popular all over Europe and has also been translated into Arabic and Hindi, if that helps.

How on Earth does one translate "Thundering typhoons!" into Arabic? There are some pretty skilled translators out there.
