DC Comics Trying to Buy Dynamite Entertainment?
So claims Bleeding Cool, anyway. I really hope this isn't true, Dynamite have been putting out some great material, I'd hate to lose them.

Yeah, I don't want this to happen either. And what would they even be buying them for, anyway? Their character licenses? Couldn't they just swoop in and steal those from Dynamite anyway?

I doubt the licences are transferable, and the creator owned stuff is mostly by people who want nothing to do with DC, so that would cease. Basically, they'd be buying Vampirella and some used office equipment.

I got a little irritated last week at one of Rich Johnston's more than usually inaccurate "articles" and had a bit of a go at him over his standards of journalism (in mitigation, I'd had a trying day and a few beers). I don't think he's forgiven me.Silogramsam wrote:It's Bleeding Cool. the odds are this is not just wrong, it's really, really wrong

A guy on Comic Book Resources "wrote" an article that was nothing more than a press release re-written as if it were his work, and I commented on that in the article's comment section. It was erased. Wonder why...

They seem to get quite touchy about being challenged. Rich claimed that Titan had been planning to buy "Panini' Doctor Who Monthly". When I pointed out that a) this was not actually true and b) Doctor Who Magazine hasn't been called Doctor Who Monthly for over thirty years, and when it was, it was a Marvel publication, he ignored the first point altogether and said the second was "clearly journalistic shorthand".

When Johnston is right, you hear about it (and, really, I attribute his being right as being analagous to that chimpanzee writing Shakespeare) and wrong, it's as if he never wrote anything at all.
As for DC buying Dynamite - doubtful but I am intrigued by a story where Jonah Hex could encounter the Lone Ranger or, the Green Hornet could encounter the Sandman - or, for that matter, Peter Cannon maybe being available again to DC. On the other hand, I've ignored Dynamite's other works for a few years now.

Re: DC Comics Trying to Buy Dynamite Entertainment?
Dynamite don't own Cannon, they just licensed him for a time the same way DC did. There's no guarantee that licence would transfer over. In fact, given that Morisi was apparently quite unhappy with DC over their treatment of the character, I'd be surprised if his estate allowed it.

Well, they don't have a great record lately with licensed properties, I think Dynamite are better at that sort of thing personally.indybrand13 wrote:Do you want DC to their version of million dollar man?

Marvel put out some goodd licensed stuff in the 70s and 80s, and their Star Wars boks look good, but the John Carter of Mars thing they did a few years ago was atrocius.indybrand13 wrote:that goes for marvel as well.
