Superman's new costume
I think that Superman looks better without his underpants on over his trousers.
There, I said it.

I'm of two minds about it, myself. I prefer the old costume, but I don't actually hate the new one. It's pretty cool, really. I just wish it were on someone else.

Why would someone else be wearing Superman's costume?

Superman's exterior underpants are a classic part of a classic design. It's an outrage that he has been forced to hide them. I have at times been tempted to begin wearing my own underpants on the outside as a gesture of solidarity with my persecuted Kryptonian brother.

Seriously, though: why, exactly, does an indestructible man need body armour?

I think it was meant to be Kryptonian, from when they wouldn't have been indestructible. IIRC.
That said, I don't mind the new costume at all. Sure the old one is classic, but that's only because we accept it as such. The new one doesn't make him less Superman. Plus, I do kind think the trunks look weird, circus-act holdover or not.

My gesture of solidarity is not intended for the amusement of philistines.

I am totally not a philistine and take everything you do with a monstrously high level of seriousness, man.

In almost every way. I think we tend to forget that.

We're too "close" to them to see it. From the POV of the average non comics reader, I doubt Superman's new look is any less absurd than his old one.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:Aren't superheroes a bit weird anyway?

It is slightly less absurd, because he is wearing his underwear on the INSIDE, as nature intended.

Yes, I think we are too close. And, I think others would find it every bit as absurd. That was one of my moments of "what?" about the Nu-52. People kept talking about changes, big changes to characters, and for the most part I saw none. Here and there were some, but most were so cosmetic as to be almost unnoticeable. Too close to it, they were, I think.

I don't know that I agree. Mother Nature, in her focus on procreation, seems obsessed with sex. I think she'd prefer Victoria's Secret underwear or Frederick's of Hollywood. Neither of which appeals to me as a thing to put on the outside of Superman's costume.

It might cause a temporary sales spike, though. That would be reason enough for DC to do it.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:I don't think nature has any opinion on underwear.

What is this 'sex' of which you speak? I'm sure it has no place in superhero comics.Mbast1 wrote: don't know that I agree. Mother Nature, in her focus on procreation, seems obsessed with sex.

Surely if he did wear it on the outside it would have to be Kryptonian Battle Underwear now.

They're back (as of Action Comics #1000 and Brian M. Bendis).
