Doctor Who Premier Date Set.
The BBC has confirmed Doctor Who will return on Saturday 23rd August 2014.
No time has yet been confirmed when the BBC will air it, however BBC America will show the episode at 8pm Eastern Time. SPACE in Canada have also confirmed it will show the episode that evening.
The premier episode, Deep Breath, will be a feature-length episode.
Does feature length mean 60 minutes, or will it be longer?

The episode title reminds me of a certain porn film.
(Not that I've ever seen it or anything like that)

I have. At La Scala in London, in about 1992. It was a classic.

Actually, I have as well, when it was first in theaters. The local District Attorney at that time was on an anti-smut campaign and was raiding theaters showing it, always with a camera crew present to record his crusade.
Because of this local notoriety, several of us wanted to see it, but were afraid of being arrested and having our families see us being police-escorted out of the theater.
We decided to laugh in the face of danger and see the movie anyway. We were actually disappointed we weren't arrested.
The D.A. never seemed to realize that the more he stopped the showings, the more he generated publicity and interest in seeing the film.

Reminds me of the National Viewers and Listeners Association's campaign against Doctor Who in the 70s. The production team always said they were delighted whenever Mary Whitehouse complained about the horror in the show in the press, because it always added a million or so to the viewing figures.

I saw the Mapplethorpe exhibit and "Henry and June" for pretty much the same reason. Young and didn't like being told I couldn't handle it. I found the Mapplethorpe exhibit boring, although Henry and June was interesting. Hardly worth the fuss (it was the first NC-17 movie they'd shown in Cincinnati, and the District Attorney had said there would be arrests. There weren't), but a decent movie. So to speak.

I'm going to read The Satanic Verses because I know there are people out there who don't want me to.

I might own it, for the same reason (along with Rushdie's reputation as a writer), but I can't remember.

So, does that mean you own it but have never read it, or it was just a deeply forgettable book?Mbast1 wrote:Lucy McGough wrote:I'm going to read The Satanic Verses because I know there are people out there who don't want me to.

I saw just about all my porno flicks at college.karatattoo wrote:Actually, I have as well, when it was first in theaters.
(Seriously, at college on campus. In the same large classrooms where I use to sleep through boring lectures.)

Re: Doctor Who Premier Date Set.
On weekends, various groups rented space from the university and showed movies, charging students (and others) minimal fees to see them. Often they were regular movies that had been in movie theaters maybe a year or two ago, or sometimes classic movies. But there was (at least) one group who would often show classic porno movies.tony ingram wrote:I'm intrigued. How did that happen?MajorHoy wrote:I saw just about all my porno flicks at college.

(It was a big school, so it was an easy way for groups to make some money. And there were usually several other non-porno movies being shown during the same weekends.)

Own it, lost it immediately... But, I'll find it, my current project is making order from chaos.

If I find it, of course. Might be fun for it to go to England.

I know the feeling. I've just found my Alan Grant Demon comics in my office. Been looking for them on and off for about three years. They were under a box of old paperwork, under a stack of Beano's.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:So, does that mean you own it but have never read it, or it was just a deeply forgettable book?

And I am taking my girlfriend and niece to see it on the 25th, at the theater. I find this a really fun thing to look forward to!

I have always had difficulty organizing. And I also find it fun when I "find" something I'd forgotten I had. But, this is ridiculous. I am too busy doing too many things to allow myself to keep this disorganized.
Ugh.

My problem is, I know more or less what I have (almost everything is catalogued) but not necessarily where all of it is...
