Classic Misty Strips to be Reprinted at Last
Good news for fans of classic British girls comics (and, indeed, classic British comics in general ) has emerged from London's Comica Festival 2014 as Pat Mills revealed that collected editions of two serials from the spooky '70s girls weekly Misty, 'Moonchild' and 'The Four Faces of Eve', are tentatively planned for next year, the first time any of this material has ever been reprinted. Let's hope it leads to more! http://www.brokenfrontier.com/selected-reprints-of-classic-british-girls-weekly-misty-finally-on-the-horizon/

I thoroughly enjoyed it! And they've just released a second volume featuring The Sentinels (about a derelict tower block that's a gateway to another universe) and End of the Line (about sinister goings on in the London Underground). These stories are fantastically dark and creepy!Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:Good news for fans of classic British girls comics (and, indeed, classic British comics in general ) has emerged from London's Comica Festival 2014 as Pat Mills revealed that collected editions of two serials from the spooky '70s girls weekly Misty, 'Moonchild' and 'The Four Faces of Eve', are tentatively planned for next year, the first time any of this material has ever been reprinted. They are good stories, but I wish the editor had paid for a decent letterer.

You think that ettering's bad? Remid me to show you the lettering in some of the old sixties Charlton comics sometime. Credited to "A.Machine"...Lucy McGough wrote:They are good stories, but I wish the editor had paid for a decent letterer.

I've seen them. Could just as well be A.Sewing.Machine.

I always rather liked it. It struck me as Charlton acknowledging their own deficiencies.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:Credited to "A.Machine"...

For me, it just takes me right out of the story. Might as well be cut and pasted letters from a newspaper, like on ye olde ransom note.

I'm more with Tony, but I think that's a function of age. It's how things used to be, you just took it as it came. But seeing it against modern lettering, I can see where it would take you out.

I know, I'm spoilt Got so many really good professional letterers out there nowadays that it's what I'm used to.

Yes, and as I'm a fan of lettering and calligraphy I'm quite happy. Have you checked out Todd Klein's site? Pretty interesting stuff about lettering.

I bought copies of the Compendium of Knowledge (for me) and Hope (for my niece). It's a great site.
