Batman v Superman
So, has anyone seen Batman v Superman? Any good?
From what I've seen/read/heard, I don't think I'd like it. I'm probably going to take my brother to see it, though, so I wonder what others think.

I don't think I'd like to see it, because it appears to be filmed in fifty shades of mud, and I heard that Superman is mopey.

I'm quite enjoying the various DC TV shows at the moment but their record with movies is not great, and every review I've seen of this does not inspire confidence. I may buy the DVD when it's reduced in price.

Sadly, I agree with both of you. I shall be seeing it with my brother on Thursday, I think, so I'll let you all know.

Taking one for the team? A noble sacrifice of a couple of hours of your life, Mike...we salute you!Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:but their record with movies is not great, and every review I've seen of this does not inspire confidence.

Ha!
Sorry it took so long to report back, it's been too busy here.
I did see it, and it was a mess. The story was just too much, too busy. All over the place. Characterizations shifted for no reason. Luthor wasn't scary, or a mastermind.
They were too clearly setting the following movies up, with no real meat to this story.
Plus, during a discussion I think I figured out why I didn't like MoS, or this one. It's set in what is essentially the real world. And that just doesn't work. The heroes are killers, the villains are monsters and the people aren't worth saving. Just horrible.
So, yeah, I didn't much like it.

In ten years' time we may pick it up on DVD for 99p and spend a pleasant evening drinking and slagging it off...

After that review, I think someone would have to pay me to take it home...Lucy McGough wrote:In ten years' time we may pick it up on DVD for 99p and spend a pleasant evening drinking and slagging it off...

The sad things is I SO wanted this movie to win me over. But it was everything I hated about MoS and more.

I think I'll stick to the DC TV universe. For some reason, it just seems to work better.

Any Superman film should have the lighthearted tone of the Supergirl TV series.

I agree, Supes just doesn't work as a 'dark' character, he's supposed to be a symbol of hope and optimism.Lucy McGough wrote:Any Superman film should have the lighthearted tone of the Supergirl TV series.

And he should wear red and blue, not burgundy and navy.

That was part of what I didn't get about Man of Steel, people actually described it as being about hope. I'm sorry, but no, it wasn't. The world was nearly destroyed, thousands died, it was awful. No, Superman needs to be REALLY about hope. Otherwise he's Supreme, Pre-Alan Moore.

I don't mind new versions of things, each age should have its own I think, I just think this version stinks.

I enjoyed it, and still watch it. Then again, I think that was as much its Moonlighting-esque set-up as it being Superman. And Teri Hatcher wasn't hard to watch.

I went through a phase of eally liking it, but I think I gave up long before the final episode. I think it lost something when John Shea left.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:I guess Lois & Clark wasn't bad...
