Christmas Thread
I don't know that I'll have time to get online on Monday, so I wanted to make sure to wish everyone a Merry Christmas! I hope you get to spend time with your loved ones, and that it isn't too stressful.

Re: Christmas Thread
Well, Christmas 2017 had some "issues" for me (a case of pneumonia right before the holiday), but as a whole, the year 2018 has been less-than-wonderful.Mbast1 wrote:I fear I may not get online on Christmas again this year, so I just wanted to be sure to wish everyone a Happy Christmas! Here's hoping everybody has a better year in 2019 (whether you enjoyed 2018 or not).

Thought I'd resurrect this thread with a less year-specific title, to wish everyone a merry Christmas...but of course, two of you got there before me!

It's about 8:45 p.m. (20:45) Eastern Time here in the U.S. (Connecticut), so Happy/Merry Christmas to all.

Happy Boxing Day!
Happy Boxing Day (December 26th) to those of you who observe the tradition.

Precisely the right thing to do! We watched something from the BBC I think about Christmas in Tudor times. Really interesting.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year and all that to everyone. You're all awesome, never forget that!

If it makes you feel any better, on my calendar it says today is when Boxing Day is observed this year.Mbast1 wrote:Yeah, uh what he said...Barry_Allen wrote:I want to wish all of you guys a Merry and a peaceful Christmas!

(I believe Boxing Day is traditionally December 26th, but since that fell on a Saturday this year, . . . )

Maybe this will help?Mbast1 wrote:I'm never sure what Bozing Day is, actually.
Boxing Day got its name when Queen Victoria was on the throne in the 1800s and has nothing to do with the sport of boxing.
The name comes from a time when the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor.
Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants, and the day when they received a special Christmas box from their masters.
The servants would also go home on Boxing Day to give Christmas boxes to their families.

Hey, in some cultures, there's always the celebration of Three Kings Day on January 6th, which represents when the Magi gave their gifts to the baby Jesus.Barry_Allen wrote:Thank you guys! Well, this year I have missed this thread before Christmas, so now is Season's Greetings everybody!
So, you're not really "late".

Yes, also here we have the Epiphany holiday, which, from a Catholic point of view, represents when the Magi gave their gifts to the baby Jesus while, from a commercial point of view, it is another chance for children to receive some other gifts from that old little witch who takes them at night traveling on her broom...

I don't think we have her in most U.S. customs.Barry_Allen wrote:Yes, also here we have the Epiphany holiday, which, from a Catholic point of view, represents when the Magi gave their gifts to the baby Jesus while, from a commercial point of view, it is another chance for children to receive some other gifts from that old little witch who takes them at night traveling on her broom...
Though I'm also trying to figure out when inflatable unicorns became part of some people's Christmas displays . . .

By the way, here's that cover from the U.S. version:
and a link to a site that tells what was in that Treasury Edition: https://gobacktothepast.com/fabulous-find-1974-marvel-treasury-special-giant-superhero-holiday-grab-bag/
And I have my copy of that somewhere . . .

I likely say this every year but Christmas isn't my thing, except that it gives me
a chance to say hello to friends.
So, Merry Christmas and I hope everyone's New Year is great!
