He may have been the original version (in terms of Marvel's comic book publishing), but years later another version of the character was created that existed during the 1940s.

And earlier this month, Marvel released True Believers: Black Widow - Red Guardian #1 for $1.00 (U.S.) which reprints the story from The Avengers #43.
