Britbox television
I have subscribed to a channel on Amazon called Britbox. It has a lot of British shows on it (clever name, huh?). Anyone have any recommendations for things to watch? I can't guarantee they'll be on it, but there's a fair amount to choose among.

I found out it has the entire season of Trial of a Timelord. And the 5-ish Doctors. So I'm definitely watching those!

The Five-ish Doctors is possibly the most fun thing to have come out of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary year. If you haven't yet watched it, you should do so immediately, if not sooner. It was originally intended by Peter Davison to be a little dig at the BBC, a reminder that he and his fellow classic Doctors existed basically, but when he asked for permission to go ahead with the project, he received considerably more support than he expected from them; it was eventually broadcast on the BBC Red Button service right after the anniversary special aired, which I think was absolutely marvelous!Mbast1 wrote:Mbast1 wrote:I have subscribed to a channel on Amazon called Britbox. .

Oh, and The Trial of a Time Lord is rather good, too.

Does Britbox have Merlin on it? It's a kids' show, but I liked it.

I remember you liking it, a lot, so that's why I mentioned it. I am looking forward to seeing it asap.
I'll report back when/if I get through the Trial. Season long and all.

I'll be interested to know what you think of Trial. I really like it, but I seem to be in the minority as far as online fandom is concerned...Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:The Five-ish Doctors is possibly the most fun thing to have come out of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary year. One episode down. Yeah, this might take forever.

Not so far. I think I'm just having a bit of trouble "getting" where the story is since I wasn't watching the build-up. The first episode does a good job of setting the story, it's just that that's it so far. I'm sticking around, though.

Re: Britbox television
The way the overall story arc is structured is quite jarring, I must admit, and that might have something to do with it. It's not exactly friendly to tbe casual viewer, I fear.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote:I...take it you are not gripped by it...?

I tolerated the Trial, but I didn't enjoy it.

I think I should be able to get through it. There's always wikipedia and other online sources if I feel lost.

You can't feel any more lost than the writers. The writer of section two freely admitted he actually had no idea what was happening by the end of it.Mbast1 wrote:tony ingram wrote: It's not exactly friendly to tbe casual viewer, I fear.

Awwww.... it's like you're trekking through a never-explored jungle with the aid of a compass and an astrolabe, hoping that one day you will see civilisation again

Man, I hope it's not that bad. I'd like to think the story will just unfold. I don't mind doing work to understand fiction (you know, like Moore and Morrison) but not just because it's bad writing.
