Golden Age Agent Axis (villain)
Okay, this may get a tad confusing, but here goes.
First appearance (of sorts) in a Timely / Marvel comic book:
Tales of Suspense #82 (October 1966)
As was later explained in that story, "Jarvis" was actually the Adaptoid, and the coffee "Jarvis" served Cap was laced with sedatives that brought on hallucinations.
Now, the funny this about "Agent Axis" is that the Agent had previously appeared in Golden Age comic book stories by Jack Kirby and Joe Simon, but those stories starred The Boy Commandos and were published by DC Comics.
from Boy Commandos #1 (Winter 1942-1943)
from Boy Commandos #3 (Summer 1943)
Agent Axis also appeared in a couple more Boy Commandos features published in Detective Comics.
Now, back to Marvel Comics.
Agent Axis was brought back again (but back during the days of WWII) in
Invaders Annual #1 (1977):
but we'll go into more on Cap's confrontation with Agent Axis another time.

Re: Golden Age Agent Axis (villain)
TOS # 82 is tipically great Cap Art by Kirby ; I remember that "Adaptoid" was at that time translated literally here in "Adattoide" while during the Marvel local publisher Corno era (1970-1984) many names of villains and "minor" heroes were completely made up, for example the unknown (at time) Wolverine when first appeared was called "Nottolone" which had really no relation to its original name and him too!
Re: Golden Age Agent Axis (villain)
Agent Axis ended up dying in a 1990s story; he was executed by the Thin Man, who'd appparently been trying to track him down for years!
