Favourite Companions
I suppose we each have our `favourites` I do have a few!
Firstly Jamie! Played superbly by Frazer Hines, Jamie and the 2nd Doctor I feel became the finest double-act in the series history! It is a shame many of the episodes from this era are missing as those that do exist show a tremendous partnership which I fell has never been equalled in the shows history!
The way Jamie slowly got used to all kinds of futuristic devices and places was portrayed very ably by Frazer. What a shame that Jamie was `reverted` back to his early self by the Time Lords.
Next is Liz Shaw-who I think was the most independant of the doctors companions in that she didn't rely on him that much and never even travelled in the tardis! She was very much her own woman-so to speak!
Then there was Nyassa who was such a even natured companion and one that the 5th doctor truly warmed to! Nyassa was a character who should have stayed longer and it is now known that Peter Davison was most unhappy that JNT would not allow Sarah Sutton to stay on as Nyassa!
Finally - and I'm most likely in a minority of one here - there was Mel (Bush) A companion full of energy and enthusiasm to help anyone in distress! A little `overblown` as played By Bonnie early on-she looked to be shaping up as a very good companion but Bonnie got fed up with the way JNT wanted her to play Mel (She intimated this in subsequent interviews) and departed too soon I think! I suppose Mel would not have worked so well in the Cartmel Masterplan involving a more devious 7th doctor! But I liked her!

Re: Favourite Companions
My favourite companions are Ian and Barbara (especially Ian - with a super-cool name like that, how can you not like him? ), Vicki, Zoe, the Brig, Romana 1 and 2 (esp 2), K9, Ace, Amy and Rory.

Can I guess that your name is Ian `Cody`? I just about remember Ian and Barbara as I was 8yrs when the programme started. In the very early days - they were the characters that viewers most identified with!

Re: Favourite Companions
My favorite used to be Rose, but that's only because I was young and stupid then. Now it's definitely the Brigadier.

Re: Favourite Companions
Fandom still seems divided on whether or not the Brig counts as a companion, which I find odd since one-off characters like Astrid Peth are now apparently considered companions...

Of course the Brig counts as a companion! He even got a special mention when he died

Ah, but does that mean that Sgt. Benton, Mike Yates and Jackie Tyler are companions? (Personally, I'd say the first two are but the Tyler woman isn't. But then, I'm biased...)Lucy McGough wrote:Of course the Brig counts as a companion! He even got a special mention when he died

Jackie Tyler isn't.
'Companion' is a sort of nebulous status. It doesn't just mean they travelled in the Tardis, 'cos loads of people have done that. I'd say it depends on the Doctor's attitude towards them. It's sort of like how, in your own life, you can tell who are your friends and who are really just acquaintances, even if you refer to them as friends.

If that is not a wig then that is the most amazing hair I've ever seen.

Huge multi-coloured afro's are currently very fashionable in urban Britain. No doubt they'll cross the Atlantic soon. Why not steal a march on your friends and get one now?
