Zenith - Early Morrison
Hello. Does anyone here have an opinion on Grant Morrison's early Zenith series? I've been reading about it and it looks interesting, but the books are so expensive I'd like to know more before spending the money.

I dislike what I've read of it. It seems to take a long time to say not much in particular. Lots of portentous twaddle about tygers, which struck me as piggy-backing on Blake's talent to embellish a rather mediocre story with borrowed numinosity. Artwork flooded in black ink doesn't help make matters any clearer. As a bunch of superheroes from parallel worlds assembled to avert the advent of a terrible something, I couldn't help feeling that I'd read all this before in Alan Moore's Captain Britain.

That's what I'd read sometimes, so thanks. I don't see me spending the money anytime soon (too many other things I need, rather than want) but this sounded interesting. Just don't know it that well.
Thanks!

I've read where Alan Moore said much the same thing.

Morrison and Moore apparently don't get along. Mostly, I don't care, love the work of both of them, but from the little I've read, Morrison comes off badly.

Was this what you read?

It sure is something. I kind of thought he'd have been better off just letting it go.

Yes, it is rather peculiar when a chap who looks like a Glasgow bruiser gets into all this 'he said, she said' business, like a fifth former at an all-girls school.

Part of it, yes. I skimmed a piece, but I just don't care enough to want to really read it. I like their writings, and I don't much care about their personal lives. I try not to be so celebrity-phillic, but just look at their work.
Then again, I do like what I've seen of Moore on a personal level. I think he's taken principled stances and has put his own wealth on the line for them. Morrison seems too willing to follow a company line. His choice, and I don't claim to know the details, but I don't agree with that.
