Commissioner James "Jim" Gordon of the Gotham City Police Department

after appearing in the first three pages of the story, Gordon is again seen on the last page (page six):


Over the years, there have been a few changes / retcons to Gordon's personal life.
At one point, he was father to a son named Anthony ("Tony") and daughter Barbara.
But after CoIE and Frank Miller's revamping of Batman's back story in Year One, Gordon had a son named James Gordon Jr. and Barbara was first his niece and then became his adopted daughter (though possibly she may have been his birth-daughter with her mother being Jim's sister-in-law).  Gordon also had a second wife (Sarah Essen) in the post-Year One continuity, but her existence post-Flashpoint was unclear?

Here's the Who's Who entry for Jim Gordon from Batman Annual #13 (1989):

Barbara is very definitely his daughter again now, but James Jnr is back in continuity as well. It's all a bit confusing.

I think his present relationships with Barbara and James Jr. were first established in the New 52.
But then, how do "Year One" and "Zero Year" still work with present "continuity"?

I've read very little from the New 52, so I'm not really clear on what anybody's status was between Flashpoint and Rebirth.
