Next series to be split in two
The BBC have apparently confirmed that the 2011 series of Doctor Who will be split in two, with the first half airing in the Spring and the concluding episodes in the Autumn. Steven Moffat says this is something he requested, and provides an opportunity for a mid season cliffhanger. Personally, I suspect it's a rather clever move to enable the BBC to move the show back into its traditional Autumn time slot from the following year, where it will undoubtedly get higher ratings (not that it doesn't get high enough ratings now, but the Summer evenings are a definite disadvantage for it) without the audience having to wait eighteen months between series'. A good move, if so, I think. Thoughts?

Re: Next series to be split in two
It would be a good idea to split it asunder - that way people like me wouldn't have to keep reading what you lot say about it. That said - I find your comments better than the programme itself. Not that I watch it, but the bits I have...

Thank you for that very constructive comment.

And in the intervening six months, fandom will go crazy
Hmm... I'm not sure how I feel about this. I'll have to avoid spoilers inbetween, because some clever sod always ends up correctly guessing the ending.

I doubt it'll be six months, though. If it starts in April, you'll be looking at seven episodes to late May, then about three to four months off before it picks up in the Autumn for another six weeks, then a Special at Christmas.Lucy McGough wrote:And in the intervening six months, fandom will go crazy

Okay, so I only have to avoid spoilers for four months.
Not a problem.

Re: Next series to be split in two
Not really. Summer is traditionally a lousy time for viewing figures as people have better things to do,and the BBC is obviously going to want its highest earning drama series to get maximum exposure. The main obstacle to having it on in the Autumn was that on Saturday nights it would end up in direct competition with The X Factor, but that's being shifted to a slot earlier in the year from 2012 as Simon cowell will be working on the US version in the Autumn. That leaves the Autumn Saturday night schedule up for grabs, and Doctor Who is the obvious show to grab the viewers.codywillis1 wrote:Rather an odd move.

Anyone who has "better things to do" than watching DW is clearly not a true fan, and therefore their preferences should be utterly disregarded by the production team.

They'd have to dig up Peter Butterworth first...

Bill Bailey would make a good Meddling Monk.

Managed to bump into the Doctor last night - I thought there was a new one and Tennant had gone? Anyway, watched it long enough to see some 'Cat Nuns' prancing about and the (allegedly) gorgeous ex Mrs Evans looking like...Mrs Evans. Turned over and looked at something else...can't remember what...

There is a new one: that was a repeat from 2006...GBF wrote:Managed to bump into the Doctor last night - I thought there was a new one and Tennant had gone? Re: Next series to be split in two
Just had a peek at the (still) beautiful Elizabeth Slayden in some episode where Anthony Head (I think it's him) is playing the guy from 'The Matrix'...and eating people! And the 'Billy Bunter' look-a-like kid getting away while all his mates are 'got'. And was the Doctor's side kick bloke meant to be Lt Green from Capt Scarlet? Just dropped in there to 'play off' but not getting any good lines? Come on, kids - this stuff is crap! Let's all get together and write a script!!!

Re: Next series to be split in two
It's called a 'term of endearment', Luce. Some people find such things patronising but some people consider other people part of their extended family and like to show some affection. For example, I think Tony Ingram is GREAT - not many do - but I'm one who does!! Even with the beard! Anyway, I'm old enough to be your dad so, yes, to me you are a 'kid'...bad in today's world but never mind - you'll all get over it...maybe!
Re: Next series to be split in two
I think he's great too
You can call me a kid as long as you don't call me a girl.
(And I like it when you guys call me Luce. Nobody does in real life.)
Elisabeth Sladen is amazing. It's like she drank from the Fountain of Youth or something.

I am choked up, here. Maybe one day, I'll get a compliment from Fleming that isn't backhanded...
And Lis Sladen is even more beautiful in real life, Luce. I met her a few years ago and she is an incredibly nice lady, really friendly and approachable.

And yet you don't know how to spell her name...hmm...GBF wrote:... just hope we don't start calling you "Loose" instead of "Luce"!!!! I went out with Liz Slayden in 1979!!

Re: Next series to be split in two
...and neither do you - here name is "Liz" not "Lis"... but I have to admit I forgot to put "a girl who looked a lot like" before I mispelt her name!!
Re: Next series to be split in two
Her name is Lis. It's Elisabeth with an 's'. I have her autograph.
Lis's name gets misspelled even more than Peter Davison and Christopher Eccleston's do.
Though nobody's name gets misspelled as often as Mr A. N. Annoying-Nitwit, who everyone for some reason calls 'David Tennant'.

Yeah- that's what she told you! She told me she'd met this bloke with a beard who followed her around at a Con...
Re: Next series to be split in two
Actually, we had a drink with her afterward. Dave Prowse was there too, but he pissed off as soon as he'd done his Q&A session.GBF wrote:Yeah- that's what she told you! She told me she'd met this bloke with a beard who followed her around at a Con...

He actually said at that con, he was really pissed off at not being able to voice Vader. Lucas didn't tell him at first that he'd be dubbed!GBF wrote:"Oi yam yor Farther, Loowk!"

Must be the only time Lucas had a good idea himself! But my money is that it was the casting directors gem...

I think we were robbed. Dave would have done an excellent job!

Re: Next series to be split in two
Hmm, hopefully it will be two long, connected serials. And i mean proper serials not individual episodes with a common thread that's shoved in at the end. Cliffhangers in every episode then a big one in the middle!

I echo your hope, but I'm not sure they'd dare do it. I don't think programme planners these days have much faith in the attention span of the casual viewer.felneymike wrote:Hmm, hopefully it will be two long, connected serials. Re: Next series to be split in two
Just to let you Who people know - if you go to the Radio 4 website and look at 'Programmes' - you'll find a30 minute prog about certain Who/Tom Baker progs that were not aired back in the 70s. You've know doubt all seen them on DVD by now - but the programme is interesting in itself. Just thought you'd like to check it out.
Re: Next series to be split in two
Was unfortunate the other night enough to catch 2 minutes of Tennent/Tennant speaking with a Sigourney Weaver look-a-like and a bloke who I think was related to the cat in 'Red Dwarf' - but not as far advanced. May be it WAS the guy from RD...crap anyway. Sorry folks - they've GOT to do better than this...
Re: Next series to be split in two
This is probably the wrong link to post this but here goes: Saw 'The Sarah Jane' show for about 90 seconds the other day - who were those guys in yellow and red, the ones who looked like Buzz Lightyear's cousins?!
Drivel!!!
