Newsnight Asks: Was Doctor Who Crap in the Eighties
Well, that was basically what last night's ten minute Doctor Who related segment was all about. Cue Andrew Cartmel being made to watch some rather embarrassing clips from season 24, Sylvester McCoy talking about spoons, the Myrka and a brief clip of shooting being interrupted by the information that it was 10.00 o'clock and they had to turn the lights out. Conclusion reached? None really, except that eighties Who may well have been not very good at times but if so, it wasn't the fault of the people making it. A staggering revelation, to be sure. Though I'm still not entirely clear on why it was raised on a topical news programme...

Can't wait for RTD to be forced sit through Tennant screeching "I'm beating out a SAMBA!" in 20 years time on Panorama.

He probably regards it as one of his finest moments.
