Doctor Who 50th
I got three tickets for what looks to be a really fun event. They're showing the Doctor Who 50th anniversary episode in theaters here in the US. Are they doing that anywhere else? I am sure I'll still be getting it from Amazon, but I think this could be a blast. Looking forward to it.

They're showing it in selected cinemas in the UK, but I want to be at home to watch all the other Who themed stuff that's being shown on the same night.

Cool. For us, though, it's not on at the same time. I wish I had BBC America, but I am not getting cable just to get it all. Maybe I'll be buying some DVDs.tony ingram wrote:They're showing it in selected cinemas in the UK, but I want to be at home to watch all the other Who themed stuff that's being shown on the same night.

I think on the same day we are getting the Special, the docudrama (An Adventure in Space & Time), some classic Who, Brian Cox on the science of Doctor Who and a few other bits. Even Radio 4 Extra are running some Big Finish audio, I believe!

But you had Doctor Smith, Dr McCoy, the Voyager Doctor and Dr Kildare! OK, none of them really matches up to our Doctor in terms of sheer heroism and awesomeness, but at least a couple of them were actually medically qualified. I have yet to see any evidence that our tricky Time Lord actually has a real doctorate.Mbast1 wrote:I know, I'm jealous!tony ingram wrote:Hey, it's only fair! It's our show!

The only one I'll take is McCoy, either version. The rest you are welcome to.tony ingram wrote:But you had Doctor Smith, Dr McCoy, the Voyager Doctor and Dr Kildare!
Well, it's not like there aren't HUGE gaps in what we know about him. He could have several. For all we know he could really be The DDoctor, or even The Doctor mult...tony ingram wrote:I have yet to see any evidence that our tricky Time Lord actually has a real doctorate.

I reckon his qualification is actually in dentistry.

Given the amount of running, I'd have thought Sports Medicine.tony ingram wrote:I reckon his qualification is actually in dentistry.
My niece sent me an article about this, and it looks as though Moffat went out of his way to NOT include the older Doctors and others. I like his writing, and I AM looking forward to this, but I think the show could do better with someone else in charge.

I've really liked Moffat's time as showrunner, but I don't feel he was the right person to handle the anniversary. He doesn't seem to get the fairly basic fact that anniversaries are meant to be about celebrating the past. At least Big Finish were on hand to give the first eight their due.

All I can hope is that it's an elaborate plot to keep it all secret. I LOVE Tennant, but I would like to see more of the others.tony ingram wrote:He doesn't seem to get the fairly basic fact that anniversaries are meant to be about celebrating the past.

Yeah, just having Tennant in and leaving the rest out smacks of pandering to me.

Well, I haven't had it. If you will leave your punctuation marls just lying around, you can't be surprised when they go missing...Sam_Vimes wrote:Could've SWORN I put in that comma...

I might, just might, have borrowed a few. In my defense, really, there were just there for the taking... And some extra periods, too.tony ingram wrote:If you will leave your punctuation marls just lying around, you can't be surprised when they go missing...

Re: Doctor Who 50th
Watch it, you might start with supposedly harmless pilfering of punctuation, but once you do you're on the slippery slope to taking the words right out of people's mouths. And then, the only outcome is a long sentence.Mbast1 wrote:I might, just might, have borrowed a few. In my defense, really, there were just there for the taking...
