May be licensing issues involved.

Who owns Buffy these days (the comics licence, I mean)? Dynamite own Vampi, and they've collaborated with several other publishers on crossovers in the past.

But I don't know if Wheldon may be more protective of his stuff. And looking at a recent issue of Buffy, it says

Buffy the Vampire Slayer™ & © 2014 Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation.

Probably rules out any crossovers.

He's actually a Mike Mignola character from his Hellboy universe.

I am probably the only comics fan I know who has never read Hellboy or any associated title. Something about the character has just never appealed to me. I don't know if it's the name, the look, or what...
